The main purpose of the Cover Supervisor is to supervise classes during short-term teacher absences. In this role, you will deliver the assigned work, manage student behavior, and assist with activities in line with the school's policies.
Key Responsibilities
Support for Students
Supervise assigned tasks to contribute to student learning and help with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Build positive relationships with students and act as a role model, setting high standards.
Promote inclusivity and provide consistent, tailored support for individual student needs.
Support for Teachers
Provide feedback on student progress and achievement.
Manage immediate issues according to school policies.
Collect and return completed work to the teacher.
Manage student behavior to maintain a constructive learning environment and report issues using agreed-upon procedures.
Complete tracking of attendance and rewards.
Support for the School
Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
Help implement policies and procedures related to child protection, health, safety, security, confidentiality, and data protection.
Report any concerns promptly to the appropriate person.
Ensure all students have equal access to learning opportunities by liaising with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
Assist with student supervision outside of lesson times, including before and after school and at lunch.
Participate in required training and professional development.
Contribute to the school's overall ethos, work, and aims.
Person Specification
Experience & Qualifications
Experience supporting children's learning in a relevant environment.
Excellent numeracy, literacy, and IT skills.
GCSE English and Mathematics, grade 4 or above (or equivalent).
A relevant Level 3 qualification is required.
Knowledge & Skills
A full working knowledge of relevant policies and codes of practice.
An understanding of curriculum matters, including literacy, numeracy, and science.
Knowledge of safeguarding children and effective behavior management strategies.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with a wide range of people, including students, parents, and colleagues.
The ability to work well as part of a team while also demonstrating initiative.
Personal Qualities
Resilience, integrity, and a willingness to contribute to the community.
The ability to be reflective and open to support.
Methodical with a good attention to detail.
