Job description
As a Supported Living Manager, your role will involve managing the care and accommodation of residents, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing leadership to a dedicated team of staff. You will be responsible for the overall functioning of the supported living services, from policy development and implementation to staff management and direct support for residents.
We are a small, close-knit team seeking an experienced and knowledgeable individual to join us. Your expertise will play a vital role in shaping our services and supporting both the staff and residents. Leadership & Staff Management
Provide strong leadership
to a team of care and support staff, ensuring they are motivated, supported, and guided in their roles.
Recruit, train, and supervise
staff, ensuring that all team members are qualified and meet the necessary professional standards.
Conduct regular supervisions and appraisals
for staff, offering feedback, development plans, and identifying training needs to ensure continued professional growth.
Ensure effective staff communication
and foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and collaboration.
Manage staff rotas and staffing levels
to ensure adequate coverage for residents' needs, especially during peak times and emergencies.
Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations
and guidelines, such as CQC standards, Health & Safety regulations, and local authorities' requirements.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation
related to supported living and social care, ensuring that the service is fully compliant with all legal and regulatory requirements.
Prepare for inspections
by regulatory bodies, including CQC, and manage any follow-up actions or improvements after inspections.
Develop and implement policies and procedures
related to all aspects of supported living, including safeguarding, care planning, and medication management.
Care & Support Delivery
Oversee the development and implementation of care plans
tailored to the individual needs of each resident, ensuring that care and support are person-centered and holistic.
Monitor the delivery of care
and ensure that it meets the highest standards of quality, dignity, and respect for the residents.
Support residents in achieving their personal goals
, fostering independence and promoting their overall well-being, while ensuring they are encouraged to maintain choice and control over their lives.
Ensure that health and safety protocols
are followed at all times, including those for medication administration, infection control, and risk assessments.
Liaise with external health professionals
(GPs, social workers, therapists) to ensure the appropriate care and support are provided for residents.
Financial Management & Budgeting
Monitor and manage the budget
for the supported living service, ensuring financial efficiency and that funds are appropriately allocated to meet the needs of residents.
Ensure that all financial transactions
(e.g., payments, purchases, petty cash) are accurately recorded and compliant with internal financial controls.
Prepare and manage cost projections
for future expenses, ensuring value for money in all aspects of the supported living operation.
Quality Assurance & Improvement
Monitor the quality of care services
, using internal audits, feedback from residents, staff, and external professionals, and data from incident reports to assess and improve service delivery.
Ensure the implementation of quality improvement plans
, acting on feedback from staff, residents, and inspections to continually raise standards.
Maintain a culture of continuous learning
by promoting ongoing professional development for all team members.
Conduct regular risk assessments
for both residents and staff, ensuring that any potential risks are addressed and mitigated appropriately.
Resident Welfare & Safeguarding
Ensure the welfare and safety
of residents by safeguarding them from harm, abuse, or neglect, and ensuring that all safeguarding concerns are reported and investigated.
Promote mental health and emotional well-being
of residents, supporting them in coping with any difficulties they may face, such as self-harm, mental health disorders, or challenging behaviours.
Ensure that residents' rights
are respected and protected, supporting them to exercise choice and control over their lives.
Manage and monitor safeguarding incidents
, ensuring that staff follow appropriate procedures and that documentation is completed thoroughly.
Administrative & Documentation Responsibilities
Ensure accurate record-keeping
of all documentation, including care plans, risk assessments, incident reports, and staff supervision records, and ensure that these documents are regularly updated.
Complete reports
for external agencies, including local authorities and health providers, as required by regulatory bodies.
Maintain confidentiality
in all aspects of care and management, ensuring that personal data is securely stored and accessed only by authorised individuals.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
Develop and maintain positive relationships
with external stakeholders, including local authorities, health professionals, social workers, and families of residents.
Manage and resolve complaints
from residents, staff, or families, ensuring that issues are dealt with promptly and in a sensitive manner.
Organise and chair meetings
with staff, residents, and external stakeholders to ensure that communication is clear and consistent.

Ensure the safe operation of the home
, managing and reviewing health and safety policies and procedures.
Conduct regular health and safety audits
to ensure that the home is compliant with fire safety, health regulations, and general safety standards.
Respond to emergencies
in a calm and organised manner, ensuring the safety of both residents and staff.
Crisis Management & Support
Provide leadership in crisis situations
, ensuring that staff are supported and that residents are kept safe during times of heightened risk.
Develop and implement crisis intervention plans
for individual residents, with a focus on de-escalation techniques and ensuring the safety and dignity of all involved.
Support staff in managing challenging behaviours
, ensuring that care plans are followed, and appropriate interventions are in place to reduce incidents.
Key Requirements:
Qualifications
: NVQ Level 5 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent), Registered Manager (RM) status with the relevant regulatory body (e.g., CQC).
Experience
: Significant experience in social care, including at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
Skills
: Strong communication, organisational, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage a team effectively.
Knowledge
: In-depth knowledge of social care regulations, safeguarding policies, and best practices in supported living.
