Actual Salary for working 42 weeks: 24,019 - 37,030

Brantwood Specialist School is located on the outskirts of Sheffield. In addition to the main campus, it includes a smallholding and a theatre/performing arts space. The curriculum at Brantwood includes clay work, jewellery making, felting and weaving, forge work and green woodwork.

The Craft Teacher (Greenwood Work) will be responsible for the planning, preparation and delivery of teaching and learning for the students providing practical, experiential and therapeutic education. You will be working with a small group of students, delivering accredited qualifications in line with external requirements and within the Trust's methods and values. This role will be predominantly based outdoors utilising our external classrooms and you will need to promote and embrace the outdoor learning experience for our students.

The key duties of this role will include:



To plan and deliver Greenwood work sessions based on the natural elements of the environment and forestry. To teach the children and young people how to produce Greenwood items that is practical and meaningful. (The work will be completed in the open air at our site in Brantwood Specialist School). Ensuring children and young people engage in learning and achieve: through careful planning of the structure, methodology and delivery of the learning experience. To deliver sessions using the Ruskin Mill Trust methods of Practical Skills Therapeutic Education, embedded in the local environment and linking into other areas of the curriculum where appropriate such as functional skills. To be a part of ongoing assessment of children and young people learning needs and to make reasonable adjustments as required minimising barriers to learning and achievement. Assessing the progress of children and young people in accordance with the School's assessment schedule and Curriculum Policy.

To undertake this position successfully you will have:



Experience of working with Greenwood work whilst having the ability to produce useful items that the children and young people can use. A willingness to work with hand-tools and having experience working with other related machinery (in-house training/guidance can be provided). A teaching qualification is desirable but not essential. If not held the successful candidate must be willing to work towards one. Experience of delivering the Steiner Waldorf Curriculum would be desired. Knowledge of specialist education. Experience of working with children with learning disabilities and/or challenging behaviour many of whom are on the Autistic spectrum. Excellent communication and organisational skills A driving licence is desirable
