Role overview



We are seeking to recruit a proactive Credit Control Manager to head up our credit control function. This role is pivotal in managing the company's credit risk, ensuring timely collection of outstanding debts, and maintaining strong relationships with clients. The ideal candidate will bring a strategic mindset, excellent leadership skills, and a deep understanding of credit management processes

This role reports to the Financial Controller and has responsibility for managing the debt levels across the firm's core divisions: Business Services, Health and Marine. It will give you the opportunity to work with larger national and international corporate clients and will present different challenges on a day-to-day basis.

You will work closely with the Business Partners, Matter Fee Earners, and Client Matter Partners and establish strong working relationships with your team, within finance and the wider firm, and our clients. You will be instrumental in communicating our expectations to pay both internally and externally.

You will manage a team of credit controllers leading them to work more effectively and efficiently and challenge their processes and drive them to hit the firm's monthly cash collection targets.

Key responsibilities:

Develop and implement credit control policies and procedures to improve cash flow and reduce outstanding debts. Monitor and manage the credit control team to ensure timely collection of outstanding invoices Take the lead in major projects which involve Credit Control & Finance, particularly the Bill Blast Project, liaising with the internal Business Partners to ensure appropriate firm wide communication Prepare regular (daily/weekly/monthly) insightful reports on debtor balances, aged debt, and cash collection forecasts for senior management. Handle complex or escalated accounts and negotiate repayment plans where necessary. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and company policies regarding credit and collections Monitor problem debts escalating to senior management when applicable Continuously review and improve credit control processes and systems for efficiency and effectiveness Arrange regular meetings with Partners and Fee Earners to discuss action to be taken on overdue debt and ensure communicated to the Financial Controller Working with the team to implement a strategy to reduce debt greater than 6 months across all Business Groups Take the lead with query resolution Communicate and educate our clients, fee earners and partners as to our expectations for payment and be instrumental in embedding our new process and support the Financial Controller to deliver targets Responsible for staff training, ensuring all new starters are trained to a high level to enable them to strengthen the team and perform their day-to day activities with minimal supervision

What are we looking for:

Important criteria:Demonstrable proven experience in a managerial position within a credit control environment Excellent overall knowledge in a credit control environment, including credit risk assessment and debt recovery practices Good analytic and problem-solving skills to help with query resolution and assist team members Ability to lead and motivate a team successfully Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills Experience dealing with stakeholders at different levels Good IT skills across a broad range of applications including MS Excel Good analytical skills and keen attention to detail Ability to work well under pressure and to meet deadlines Ability to be assertive when handling difficult situations or people Excellent communication skills both verbal and written Proactive and determined attitude Strong organisational and time management skills Ability to learn to work with new systems

Professional qualification in credit management (e.g., CICM) is highly desirable
