We are a forwaard thinking multi-practice high street firm spread over 6 offices in County Durham and Gateshead.
We have a growing and very busy Criminal Law department, such that the increasing volume of our work has meant that we now need the services of a criminal billing clerk to help us oversee our department and ensure the smooth running of the billing of matters.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Billing Clerk to join our team to help us ensure that all matters are billed correctly and within necessary timescales. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing our criminal legal aid and private billing processes, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all financial transactions.
This position requires strong analytical skills and familiarity with accounting and case management software, making it essential for maintaining the integrity of our financial records and our running as a business.
Responsibilities
Process and manage invoices for clients and third parties, including responsibility for submitting CRM11s and Crown Court legal aid bills on time, ensuring timely billing and payment collection.
Maintain accurate records of accounts payable and receivable.
Assist in reconciling discrepancies in billing and resolve any issues that arise with clients or vendors.
Analyse financial data to identify trends or irregularities that may require further investigation.
Communicate effectively with clients via phone or email, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette while handling inquiries related to billing.
Collaborate with the finance team to support various financial services initiatives.
Qualifications
Proven experience in a criminal legal aid billing role is essential
Knowledge of the crime contract and associated billing rules
Strong data entry skills with a high level of accuracy.
Familiarity with financial services and accounts payable processes is advantageous.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to assess and interpret financial information.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with an emphasis on professional phone etiquette.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

The candidate can be based remotely as our case management system, LEAP, along with our files are all digital. If the candidate has not used LEAP before, training can be provided for this.

Staff receive 25 holidays per year plus bank holidays, including an extra day for their birthday. We close over the Christmas period and staff are not expected to retain holiday days to cover this, thus amounting to further days of holiday.
