to join our Criminal Defence team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a caseload of serious and complex matters progressing to the Crown Court. You will work closely with clients, barristers, and other stakeholders to ensure the highest standard of legal representation from initial instruction through to trial and sentencing.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and prepare a caseload of criminal defence matters proceeding to the Crown Court.
Advise clients on evidence, plea, and prospects of success.
Instruct and liaise with counsel, including attending conferences and court hearings.
Draft legal documents, including case summaries, trial bundles, and mitigation.
Maintain accurate case records and comply with Legal Aid Agency (LAA) requirements.
Build strong working relationships with clients, counsel, police, and court officials.
Stay up to date with changes in criminal law and procedure.
Requirements
Essential:
Minimum 2 years' experience as a Crown Court Litigator or Criminal Defence Solicitor.
In-depth knowledge of criminal law and procedure, particularly Crown Court processes.
Strong case management and organisational skills.
Experience preparing cases for trial, including dealing with complex evidence and disclosure.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build rapport with vulnerable or challenging clients.
IT literate with experience using case management systems.
