Job Introduction
We are looking to appoint a Communication Support worker (CSW) to support children with hearing loss and deafness within our resourced provision for hearing loss. Ideally someone with knowledge of hearing loss would be preferrable however training can be provided.
A key part of this role is the knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL) Level 2 minimum for this role with an interest to increase this knowledge. Predominantly the delivery mode will be Sign Supported English.
The role is to ensure, under the direction of the Teacher in Charge of the Resourced Provision, that the children are offered access to sign language as required. This will facilitate
Access to teaching and learning when in class in line with the needs of specific children.
alongside other staff support in a small group context for reinforcement opportunities and facilitated communication if required.
Promotion of independence skills both personally and socially with knowledge of the children's needs.
Inclusion by creating sign clubs, a sign of the week etc and promoting the use of sign alongside speech where possible.
The successful applicant will be a part of the school staff and have training in line with all staff members. In addition to this will be supported by the Teacher in Charge of the Resourced Provision and will have training on
understanding the impact and implication of hearing loss or deafness on a child
deaf awareness,
training around hearing aid equipment and extended use,
appropriate strategies to use when working with small groups.
