This role is based in Kirklees Museums and Galleries, part of the Culture and Tourism Service. Our sites are Tolson Museum, Bagshaw Museum and Oakwell Hall and Country Park. Huddersfield Art Gallery is currently closed awaiting the Our Cultural Heart development, which will see a new Museum & Art Gallery developed for Huddersfield Town Centre. The Huddersfield Art Gallery team are currently delivering an outreach programme. Our sites welcome 146,000 visitors annually and deliver a major programme of events, school and adult learning visits, weddings, venue hire and health and wellbeing activities.


As the Cultural Engagement Assistant you will have a particular focus on supporting learning initiatives, working closely with the Museum Learning Officer on school workshop bookings, support for learning facilitators and administration of the very popular Museum in a Box scheme.


The role will include extensive design of print media for museums learning and for marketing of the museum events programme. You will work closely with team members responsible for digital outputs and social media to co-ordinate information on seasonal programming. Knowledge of Canva or similar design programme preferred.


Kirklees Museums and Galleries has National Portfolio funding from Arts Council and has a number of key focuses for its current engagement work which include learning programmes, creative health and wellbeing programmes, and volunteering. Contributing to and reporting on the work being undertaken is a key task for all members of the team.


There will be an occasional requirement to work evenings and weekends to support meetings, events, and activities.
