Stoke Museum Service is looking for a Curator of Natural Science to join the curatorial team at The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery (PMAG).

We are looking for somebody with a high level of expertise matched with an equally high level of enthusiasm and passion to help develop and provide access to Stoke Museum Service's Natural Science collections through research, documentation and interpretation.

To share knowledge around those collections, working with colleagues and partners, to champion Nature within the City of Stoke-on-Trent and throughout the County of Staffordshire and to inspire audiences locally, nationally and internationally, and of all ages.

The museum's Natural Science collection consist of the most comprehensive collections of plants, animals, fungi, rocks and fossils in the county and number in the region of 150,000 specimens.

Scientist, academics and researchers from all over the world are frequently in contact with the museum hoping to access existing, or undertake new, research across the biological and geological collections. In 2022 Stoke-on-Trent City Council launched the PMAG Development Prospectus and Vision.

This ambitious plan seeks to promote and enhance the city's unique cultural and heritage offer.

The multi-phased redevelopment will provide a cultural hub that brings together the city's residents and its heritage.

The transformation journey has already begun with the investment into the creation of the stunning Spitfire Gallery and the co-location of the city's archive service.

This year sees the commencement of a 5 million Cultural Development Fund capital project which will further enhance museum's visitor experience.

This is an opportunity to join the museum service at, what is, a very exciting time.

Please note that if an employee who is currently at risk of redundancy within the organisation applies for this vacancy their application will receive priority. If this happens you will be advised accordingly.
