Part time Detention Officer opportunity available from March 2026 at the following location:
Martlesham x 1 - 18.5 hours
Rolling Shift pattern of 2 Days (0700hrs to 1900) 6 days off. Includes weekend and bank holiday working.
Salary quoted will be pro rata based on number of hours worked, but will attract additional weekend working enhancement.
The mandatory training for successful candidates will commence for 6 weeks commencing March 2026 (dates and venue in Norfolk to be confirmed). There is a requirement that full accreditation as a Custody Detention Officer is achieved on conclusion of the training.
The recruitment process will consist of initial written Application followed by a formal interview or professional discussion dependant on the number of applicants. Those candidates who are successful within the selection process shall be required to attend medical assessment and uniform fitting.
Custody Detention Officers are responsible for the care and welfare of detained persons whilst in custody. This includes the provision of food, drink and medication as directed, conducting basic health assessments, facilitating religious observance and making reasonable adjustments for the disabled. You must also be able to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills, with previous experience of effectively handling conflict and have the ability to work in restricted areas and confined spaces.
In addition, the duties will also include undertaking general care and maintenance checks to ensure cells, interview and changing rooms are clean, tidy and undamaged. You will also be required to complete all administration functions in the custody suite and take fingerprints, photographs and DNA samples and drug testing on arrest samples from the detainee.
As part of the role, Custody detention officer are also required to undertake escort duties and constant observation of detainees when required.

Demonstrate the ability to maintain control of difficult situations and individuals
Physical ability to effectively restrain detainees
Experience of working to strict procedures and guidelines
Experience of working effectively as part of a team
Demonstrate the ability to be resilient and manage time critical priorities
Good basic keyboard skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
Full driving licence due to the need to drive police vehicles
