Dairy Operations Specialist

Chester, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Role Overview:

The Dairy Operations Specialist plays a key role in delivering Cogent's dairy genetic improvement strategy through the effective coordination of heifer selection, embryo creation, and semen inventory management. The role is both operational and relationship-driven, requiring close collaboration with partner farms, service providers, and internal stakeholders.

Working across Holstein, Jersey, Friesian, and Ayrshire breeds, the postholder will ensure seamless logistics across multiple touchpoints, support international genetic projects, and contribute to the company's marketing and knowledge transfer agenda.

Key Responsibilities:

Genetic Programme Operations

Coordinate the selection, movement, and flushing logistics of heifers entering the genetic creation programme. Work closely with partner farms to align implantation schedules, embryo requirements, and pregnancy results. Manage embryo inventory levels across external service providers (e.g. AB Europe, Lambert Leonard & May, Celltech), including regular stock checks and reporting. Oversee semen inventory management, purchasing, and logistics to support ongoing and future genetic projects.

Data and Insights

Use internal dashboards to identify bull calves and high-potential females for programme entry. Support mating decisions by analysing performance data and coordinating with internal stakeholders.

Supplier and Farm Engagement

Act as the principal contact for operational FAQs from partner farms and service providers. Manage relationships with key breeders, farms, and genetic suppliers to maintain high programme standards and consistency. Support scoping of new embryo farms and alignment with operational expectations.

Strategic and International Collaboration

Participate in creation mating decisions with global partners, helping shape and execute the strategic vision. Support US embryo selection and logistics through collaboration with the US genetics team. Contribute to supplier account management, including pipeline integration and product readiness.

Knowledge Transfer and Support

Support B2C marketing strategy for dairy genetics through content contribution (e.g. blog posts and knowledge-sharing materials). Deliver training and knowledge transfer to sales, marketing, and technical teams. Assist the sales team with key account support by providing programme and product insight.

Key Skills and Experience:

Hands-on experience in livestock or dairy genetics, embryo transfer programmes, or reproductive logistics. Strong organisational and project coordination skills across multiple stakeholders. Confident working with data dashboards and applying insights to real-world breeding programmes. Excellent relationship management with a practical, solution-focused approach. Able to communicate technical concepts clearly to farm partners and internal teams.

Additional Information:

While based in Cheshire, this role can be performed remotely for the right candidate, with travel to partner farms and service providers as required. The programme spans multiple dairy breeds including Holstein, Jersey, Friesian, and Ayrshire, requiring a flexible, adaptable approach.

What We Offer:

A hands-on, varied role in a market-leading genetics business. Supportive, farm-focused company culture with flexibility and autonomy.

Competitive salary and benefits, with training and development opportunities.
