Job Description

On behalf of Network Rail, we are looking for a Data Analyst for a 6 month contract based in Manchester 4 days per week onsite.

The Data Analyst will play a critical role in supporting data-driven decision-making across change and project delivery initiatives. This role involves gathering, analysing, and interpreting data from various sources to identify trends, track progress, and highlight areas for improvement. The successful candidate will work closely with project manager, assistant project manager, and stakeholders to deliver clear, insightful reporting and ensure accurate data is used to inform planning and problem solving.



As a Data Analyst, your main responsibilities will be:



Gather data from multiple internal and external sources to support project and change-related initiatives, including operational performance, stakeholder feedback, and issue tracking. Develop and maintain project dashboards, performance scorecards, and visual reports using tools like Excel, Power BI, or Tableau, ensuring data is accessible and easy to interpret for stakeholders. Identify trends, anomalies, and root causes through data analysis to support effective problem-solving, strategic planning, and continuous improvement. Work with project managers, and business teams to understand data requirements and translate them into meaningful analysis that drives action. Ensure data quality, accuracy, and integrity are maintained across all reports and trackers. Contribute to data governance and documentation processes. Support the review and optimisation of data-related processes, identifying opportunities to automate or streamline reporting and analysis tasks.

Essential:



Proven experience as a data analyst, reporting analyst, or similar role. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail. Skilled at gathering data even in challenging environments, including when facing resistance or limited stakeholder engagement. Proficient in Microsoft Excel (advanced), and familiar with data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI) Experience interpreting complex data sets to produce actionable insights. Ability to explain data and findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
