Role Overview



On our mission to power how the world delivers exceptional employee experience, we are investing heavily in our Product, Engineering, and Data organisations. This year we will be adding further squads and leadership roles to give us the foundations to scale our data capabilities globally.


We are seeking an experienced Data Director to lead, align, and optimise our growing Data organisation (spanning data engineering, analytics, and governance). As a key member of the leadership team, you lead the strategic vision for data along with ensuring operational success by driving the high-quality delivery of that data strategy and initiatives.

Responsibilities



Shape the Data Strategy and successfully execute on the rollout Organise and execute the success of our data strategy by tracking progress and proactively identifying and managing risks to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of key initiatives. Create unified data workflows to resolve bottlenecks, streamline pipelines and operations, and implement metrics to track data quality, availability, and organisational data maturity. You will line manage the team. The team creates the Data Platform, builds a common Data Lake and creates insights. You will coach, mentor, and develop the Data Engineers & Analysts, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation. Provide guidance on best practices in data management, governance, and analytics, championing long-term data excellence and compliance. Work closely with leadership across product management, engineering, UX, and business stakeholders to ensure data initiatives align with organisational goals. Build and motivate high-performing data teams, setting and aligning overarching OKRs related to data outcomes. Communicate data strategies, insights, and technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, influencing senior leadership.



What are we looking for?



You have a proven track record of

creating a Data Platform and/or insights team at a world-class data-centric or tech organisation

, either at a company that has scaled significantly (Google, Microsoft, Uber, Booking.com) or a high-growth scale-up Monzo, N26, Personio).

Demonstrated ability in building and leading high-calibre data organisations

encompassing data engineering, analytics, data science, and governance.

Experienced people leader in data

, with proven experience as a manager in a data function.

Operational Leadership

: Translating strategic data goals into execution success, managing data roadmaps, risks, and resource allocation effectively.

Data Architecture and Governance Mastery

: Understanding of data engineering, modern data stacks, cloud technologies AWS, Azure, GCP, and data governance frameworks. Ability to optimise data platforms and processes.

People Management and Development

: Proven ability to coach, mentor, and develop Data Engineers and Analysts, and build high-performing, diverse teams.

Analytical Problem-Solving Mindset

: A proactive and rigorous approach to identifying and solving complex data and organisational challenges.

Results-Oriented

: Focused on delivering data-driven initiatives on time, within budget, and with an emphasis on quality and business impact.

Mentorship and Collaboration

: A natural inclination towards developing others and fostering a collaborative environment between Data, Engineering, and Product teams.

Interview with VP of Engineering (30 min)


Interview with our Engineering Director and interim CTO (60-90 min)


Final interview with Board member (45 min)
