Role Summary



The Data Engineer role is imperative for Furniturebox's future success. The company is young in our data journey, with the Data Engineer responsible for spearheading the improvement of data quality throughout the business with an end goal of supporting business stakeholders to make data driven business changes. They are responsible for creating a data cleanse plan and assisting our Data analyst in producing Power BI dashboards and reporting to help drive the business with data lead decisions. They are responsible for implementing and enforcing best data practices within the business across the various different cloud platforms we use including Brightpearl and Pimberly.

This role will be a hybrid position requiring 2-3 days a week at the Chippenham Head Quarters and adhoc to travel to Warminster and Bristol sites.

Duties and Responsibilities (Include but not limited to)



The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust data pipelines that empower business insights and decision-making. They'll collaborate with wider teams and work closely with our data analyst to deploy scalable data models, manage data sources from cloud-based infrastructure, and ensure the integrity, quality, and accessibility of data across the organisation. This is a hands-on engineering role where strong problem-solving skills, an understanding of data architecture, and a passion for innovation are essential.

Roles and Responsibilities include:



Contribute to design, build, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows alongside our Data analyst, from multiple sources including ecommerce platforms, CRM systems, logistics tools, and internal databases Integrate third-party data sources including Big Commerce, Brightpearl, Peoplevox, Zendesk, Google Analytics, Amazon, shipping APIs into centralised data systems for unified reporting and analysis. Making use of internal systems including Jitterbit iPaas. Own and manage the company's data warehouse e.g. BigQuery, Azure Blob, OneLake ensuring performance, cost-efficiency, and security Write and optimise SQL queries to transform and analyse large datasets, supporting both automated reporting and deep-dive investigations Support the data analyst by ensuring timely, clean, and reliable access to core datasets - enabling them to focus on insights rather than firefighting data issues. Implement data quality checks, monitoring and security best practices across platforms Enable self-service analytics by helping define and document clear data models, naming conventions, and semantic layers Transform raw data into clean, structured formats suitable for analysis and modelling in projects such as the Power BI report builds and ahead of the ERP migration project Stay up to date with emerging technologies in data engineering, AI, and cloud computing Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members on data and AI solutions Contribute to data governance efforts, including access control, GDPR compliance, and data lifecycle management.
The Data Engineer should work alongside Heads of Department within the business to suggest, test, and deploy data best practices to optimise data output. They should keep themselves up to date with Technical developments in order to suggest best practices that can be implemented. They should report back to the Head of Technical Operations with a quarterly report on improvements and general news in this area, as well as the company's readiness to adopt these practices and suggestions.

They must collaborate with the Project Coordinator to develop detailed project plans and execute projects on time, in scope, and budget that support operational and administrative teams. They should have strong critical thinking skills enabling them to break down complex business problems into solvable technical components. This includes identifying the real problem behind a vague request, asking the right questions, and determining whether a data or AI solution is the right approach. They must ensure that the underlying data is accurate, accessible, and optimised for themselves and the Data Analyst to build reports and dashboards from. They must have the ability to automate data workflows and troubleshoot data integrity issues.
