The Data Entry Clerk will support the council's data management processes by accurately inputting, updating, and maintaining information across various systems and databases. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to confidentiality, and the ability to work with both geographic and tabular data. The post holder will follow structured procedures, collaborate with colleagues, and ensure high data integrity to support wider organisational objectives.
Dutie
Data Input & Maintenance
Add, update, and maintain data across council systems and spreadsheets with accuracy and consistency.
Review and clean data to identify errors, redundancies, or inconsistencies and make necessary corrections.
Transfer data between systems while maintaining correct formatting and structure.
Ensure electronic records are well-organised and stored in accordance with procedures.
Data Quality & Compliance
Perform regular data quality checks, ensuring completeness and correctness.
Resolve data discrepancies and validate outputs.
Adhere to data protection legislation and internal confidentiality policies at all times.
Follow established best practices and procedures to support organisational goals.
Collaboration & Support
Work with staff across different teams to ensure data consistency and accuracy.
Support managers and colleagues with data tasks where required.
Use online map browsers to interpret geographic data and verify location-based information.
Essential Skills & Experience
Minimum 6 months experience in data entry or administrative roles.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (sorting, filtering, basic data manipulation).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work with structured processes and tabular datasets.
Organisational skills, including ability to track tasks and meet deadlines.
Confident using online map browsers to locate and interpret geographic data.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Basic understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or ability to use web-based mapping tools (e.g., viewing layers, searching locations).
Experience working with location-based datasets, addresses, or place names.
Strong communication skills -- able to communicate professionally with staff and managers, verbally and in writing.
Ability to manage repetitive tasks effectively and maintain quality.
Qualifications
Essential:
Minimum 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English Language and a STEM subject.
NVQ Level 2 in Business & Administration, IT-related field, or equivalent qualification/experience.
Desirable:
A Level in ICT or STEM subject, or equivalent experience
