A forward thinking secondary school is seeking a skilled and detail focused Data and MIS Officer to take ownership of the school's data systems and ensure information is accurate, compliant, and used effectively to support student progress.
This is a key role within the school's operations team. You will manage the MIS system, produce high quality reports, support staff with data tools, and ensure all statutory returns are completed accurately and on time. Your work will directly support senior leaders and teaching staff in improving outcomes for students.
Key Responsibilities
Data Management and Reporting
Manage and maintain accurate data across MIS platforms including Arbor
Provide staff training and support on MIS use and permissions
Monitor and analyse academic performance data using internal and national datasets
Produce detailed reports for senior leaders, subject teams, and governors
Create and manage target grades in line with national benchmarks
Support assessment reporting and ensure accurate communication of results to parents
Manage statutory returns including census submissions and DfE reporting
Analyse and report on surveys, QA data, and external data imports
Lead or support data meetings with senior leaders and staff
Maintain accurate student, contact, admissions, and enrolment records
Systems Administration
Oversee and maintain MIS systems and software
Manage year end transitions including course setups, class lists, staff allocations, and room changes
Provide data entry support for admissions, attendance, and assessments
Create and manage report templates, mark sheets, and grade sets
Promote consistent use of digital systems for data collection and analysis
Provide targeted training and guidance for staff
Curriculum and Timetable Support
Manage the options process and ensure balanced class allocations
Support with Course Manager and sixth form study programme setup
Manage academic year rollovers and maintain accurate timetabling data
Ensure efficient data transfer for students joining or leaving
Attendance and Pastoral Data Support
Monitor, analyse, and report on attendance data
Support senior leaders with persistent absentee analysis and reporting
Ensure compliance with statutory off roll processes
Assist with register oversight and parental communication where necessary
Team and Administrative Support
Work collaboratively across the admin and data teams
Assist with data entry for exams, behaviour, rewards, and detentions
Generate standard and ad hoc reports, certificates, and mail merges
Support reception when required
Assist parents and students with online access to school data systems
General Expectations
Remain up to date with MIS developments, regulatory changes, and DfE requirements
Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection procedures
Carry out other reasonable duties in line with the nature of the role
Person Specification
Essential
GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or 4 and above
Experience managing data in an educational or administrative setting
Experience producing reports and analysing performance data
Strong Excel skills and high confidence with data systems
Excellent organisation, accuracy, and attention to detail
Strong understanding of GDPR and data protection
Clear communication skills and ability to work with staff at all levels
Discreet, trustworthy, and able to handle sensitive information
Proactive and able to work independently under pressure
Desirable
Experience with Arbor, SIMS, or Bromcom
Experience working in a secondary school
Knowledge of statutory data returns including census
Understanding of UK performance measures such as Progress 8
Experience supporting staff with MIS training
Experience with timetabling or exam data
