Under the direction of the Data Protection Manager, the Data Protection Lead will be responsible for assisting the SPEN Data Protection Team in delivering the Data Protection program, ensuring the proactive protection of information assets across all areas of SPEN including appropriate protection when handling and processing is performed by third parties.

This role operates in close collaboration with the other SPEN teams to develop, govern, oversee and support SPEN Data Protection measures.

Within the Local context the post holder will:

Assist with the design, development and implementation of the Data Protection Strategy, and Roadmap to protect Company Information. Collaborate with the Corporate & Global Data Protection teams to ensure that both Global and Local requirements are met. Ensure the business has appropriate processes & procedures to comply with Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR.

What you'll be doing
The key responsibilities of the role will be to:

Advise on contract negotiations in relation to Data Protection Provide support to ensure SPEN meets their obligations under Article 30 of the GDPR - Maintaining the SPEN Processing Activity Register Conduct initial Data Protection Impact Assessments, analysing and informing on arising risks and risk-mitigation recommendations, supported by a Data Protection Managers. Provide support in the completion of any necessary Legitimate Impact Assessments across SPEN. Assist with the implementation of training and awareness requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR. Responsible for the monitoring of Data Protection KPI's across all business areas within SPEN and escalation any issues to the Data Protection Officer. Be a point of contact for data subjects exercising their rights. Raise awareness of Data Protection compliance and its application to Business process and systems across the UK. Work in collaboration with the Data Protection functions across SPEN to carry out root cause analysis on data breaches ensuring all required mitigating actions are identified and completed.

Ability to work autonomously and recognise when escalation is required Ability to review and advise on Data Protection elements of contracts and other business / legal documents. Ability to research and interpret regulatory compliance requirements and apply to industry/business practice Strong written and oral communication skills Ability to build effective relationships for key stakeholders locally and globally Highly developed ability to resolve complex problems and negotiate successful outcomes Solid understanding of IT processes, IT security and technology risks Ability to interact at all levels of the organization. In-depth, expert technical knowledge of all aspects of Data Protection and associated delivery techniques. Working knowledge of risk management, mitigation and remediation Strong analytics and investigatory ability Proven experience advising a wide variety of stakeholders on data protection issues

Experience/Training:Educated to degree level or relevant experience Background knowledge and understanding of Data Protection Privacy industry regulations, standards of best practice, and applicable guidance. Industry recognised Data Protection qualification (desirable) Energy industry experience (desirable) Legal qualification(s) (desirable)
