SNCMS UK is seeking a mission-driven and technically skilled Data Scientist to join our expanding Data & Analytics team. The successful candidate will be instrumental in delivering advanced data solutions in support of our defence and national security missions. You will develop data models, algorithms, and analytical tools that support operational decision-making and enhance the effectiveness of mission systems.
Key Responsibilities
Work with multi-disciplinary teams to define data-driven approaches to complex defence and intelligence challenges.
Develop machine learning models and solutions for use in decision support, operational forecasting, threat detection, and system optimisation.
Analyse large and complex datasets, ensuring integrity, relevance, and security in line with government and defence regulations.
Build and maintain data pipelines, perform feature engineering, and manage the lifecycle of analytics projects from conception to deployment.
Deliver clear, actionable insights to stakeholders via dashboards, reports, and briefings, ensuring data findings are understandable and impactful.
Collaborate closely with engineering, cyber, and mission systems teams to integrate data science solutions into operational environments.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
2+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or AI/machine learning, preferably in a defence, government, or high-security environment.
Proficiency in Python and/or R, with hands-on experience using ML libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
Solid knowledge of SQL and experience working with large structured and unstructured data sources.
Experience working in secure, classified, or sensitive environments with an understanding of information assurance principles.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to convey technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
Skills & Abilities
Experience in defence, intelligence, or national security sectors.
Knowledge of data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or matplotlib/seaborn.
Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, MODCloud) and DevOps practices.
Exposure to natural language processing (NLP), geospatial analysis, or sensor data analytics.
Understanding of UK Government classification systems and handling procedures.
