The Role
The Data Scientist role is a dynamic position in which you will utilize your experience in identifying and finding technical solutions to business challenges. You will be involved in existing projects and be given the responsibility to suggest and be involved in new ones, taking ownership of new projects dependant on experience.
Tasks are varied - you could be helping business teams to introduce more efficient processes and tooling, creating reporting tools for panel members on our price comparison websites, or working with our internal teams to write requirements to facilitate data-driven approaches during the development of Seopa's latest comparison systems!
You will work closely with various stakeholders within the company, including project managers, product owners, software & system engineers, as well as external partners such as 3rd party suppliers, consultants and account and integration managers from panel member companies.

Typical tasks you will be involved in:
Maintaining Database Integrity:
Oversee our existing database systems and ETL/TEL solutions.
Identify & document areas that can be improved upon, either through query optimisation or automation.
Diagnose & resolve issues relating to data integration by working with development teams.
Identifying Solutions to Business Problems:
Work closely with business teams to improve and advance reporting systems.
Conduct research on competitor practices and directly related industries, and present recommendations to the project manager or relevant stakeholders within the company.
Consult on data-centric requirements to optimise product and system update delivery.
Implementing Data in Commercial Applications:
Collect and structure meaningful data to be used in a variety of projects.
Design APIs, utilizing third-party packages, libraries and datasets and deploy in a fast-paced environment.
Evaluate and create statistical analytics to be used by all business and marketing teams.
The successful candidate will have:
Academics
: Honours Degree in Computing, Mathematics or equivalent?(minimum 2:1),?and a Masters or Post-grad qualification in a related field is desirable but not essential.
Essential Criteria
?- Hands-on experience gained in a professional setting (beyond academic coursework) in:
Experience in MySQL, MS Server SQL and other relational database languages
Experience working with APIs
Experience with Python & development practices (CI/CD) in a non-academic environment (2+ years)
Excellent analytical and data interpretation skills
Excellent skills in MS Office (particularly Excel)
Desirable Criteria
- experience in some of the following would be beneficial:
Experience in ETL/TEL solutions
Experience in the Google family of APIs
Experience in the UK insurance sector
Experience with Pandas/SciKit-Learn or similar libraries
Experience in statistical analysis methods
Experience with LightGBM, XGBoost, CatBoost or similar python-focused ML libraries
