We are looking for a Day Mechanical Engineer to join our Building Services team on-site at Royal London Hospital.


The Purpose of the role will be to undertake planned preventative maintenance, testing, repairs and new installation work covering a wide range of mechanical equipment, services, systems and buildings associated with the running of a large hospital.

You'll:



To support the Estates Management in the provision of a 24hr maintenance Service within the LRH.


To comply with all statutory and regulatory requirements, including Health and Safety legislation and in accordance with Health Technical Memorandums (HTM2020).


To work safely on all aspects of mechanical systems including HVAC plant, washroom services, sterilisers, bedpan macerators / washers, disinfectors and other mechanical equipment ancillary plant and systems.


To take personal responsibility for management of mechanical systems as required (after training and appointment) the role may act as competent person for two or more of the following systems; + Boiler & Pressure Systems
+ Medical Gas
+ Confined Spaces



To take responsibility for the maintenance of hospital equipment, plant, services and systems including undertake inspection and testing of mechanical equipment and installations.


To actively participate in the operation and control of engineering planned maintenance scheme and to complete all report sheets and test certificates where necessary.


Be able to carry out basic electrical services works to a competent level as outlined in the mechanical to electrical conversion course on plant, equipment and services.


To undertake any training as required and to provide training, guidance, technical advice and support to trainees and maintenance assistants


To promote a culture of customer service to both internal and external customers and partners and to liaise with other departments regarding maintenance issues if required


To undertake any other reasonable tasks and duties relevant to the post and grade as may be determined by the Estates Manager

We're looking for:



BTEC/HNC or City & Guilds Craft certificate or equivalent A recognised apprenticeship Authorised Person (Boiler & Pressure Systems) Authorised Persons (Medical Gas) Authorised Person (Confined Spaces) Recognised qualification in 'Health and Safety Commission Approved Code of Practice and Guidance for Legionella Control.' (L8) Minimum of 5 years relevant trade experience Good knowledge of H&S Legislation and some knowledge of COSHH Basic computer skills Knowledge of working safely on hot water and steam systems Able to undertake a range of testing, maintenance and monitoring of water systems. Experience of building maintenance and systems Experience of working in a hospital environment Experience of working on specialist hospital equipment Experience of lone working Knowledge of hospital specifics (HTM's)
