Day Service Assistant - Dementia Service

Salary:

12.80 per hour

Hours of Work:

15 hours per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays)

We're starting on a zero-hour basis, with the potential to move into full-time roles as the service develops.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of something new and special, joining our dedicated team at Guild Care's brand-new Holland House Day Service in the heart of Worthing town centre.


As part of this new service in a purpose-built building, you'll help shape a warm, welcoming, and engaging environment from the very beginning, making a real difference to the lives of those we support.

About The Role

Deliver Person-Centred Care

Support individuals with personal care, wellbeing, and daily routines. Encourage independence, dignity, and choice in all aspects of care. Assist with medication administration (full training provided). Offer extra support at mealtimes, including serving teas, coffees, cake, and lunches.

Facilitate Engaging Activities

Help bring our new day service to life by organising and assisting with stimulating activities and outings. Support entertainers and external providers during sessions. Encourage participation, ensuring a fun, inclusive, and welcoming environment. Foster social interaction, friendship, and wellbeing among members.

Build Relationships & Support Families

Develop trusting relationships with members, families, carers, and healthcare professionals. Provide companionship and emotional support to improve wellbeing and confidence. Communicate effectively to ensure personalised care plans are followed.

Contribute to Safe & Efficient Operations

Assist with transport of members via minibus (if qualified) and ensure safe travel. Work collaboratively as part of a supportive, friendly team. Follow safeguarding, health & safety, and internal care policies. Maintain accurate records and documentation where required.

Required Criteria

+ Experience with looking after the elderly + Must be happy to give personal care
+ Must have a desire and passion to support people living with Dementia
+ Must show empathy, kindness, patience and understanding
+ Happy to escort on a minibus
+ Must be happy to administer medication
+ Must be happy to work weekends
+ Have an understanding of confidentiality

Desired Criteria

+ Experience working with people living with Dementia + Knowledge of Safeguarding
+ Experience with working with carers
+ Experience running activities

Guild Care was founded in Worthing in 1933 by visionary volunteers dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals in the local community. Originally known as Worthing Council of Social Service, the organisation focused on alleviating poverty, isolation, and health challenges during difficult times. Over the following decades, Guild Care consistently expanded its services, proactively responding to the community's evolving needs.


In the 1950s and 1960s, Guild Care established innovative day centres and residential care homes, significantly enhancing life quality for older adults and individuals with disabilities. Adapting continually, the charity later introduced specialised dementia care facilities and tailored services for those with learning disabilities.


Today, Guild Care supports over 3,000 people annually across West Sussex through a range of community-focused services. Remaining true to its founding values, the organisation is one of Worthing's largest employers, powered by almost 700 dedicated staff members and the essential contributions of more than 300 volunteers, all united in making a meaningful difference.
