About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our manufacturing team in Derby as a Material Handler. In this role you will co-ordinate and facilitate the smooth workflow of state-of-the-art fabrication workshop by ensuring shop floor workers have the appropriate steels for each job or contract they are working on. You will organise the steel lots as they come off the saw/drill lines, so that they are identifiable to the contract, and distribute cut sections into our fifteen fabrication bays, emptying the steel when needed. You will liaise with the supervisor and prep co-ordinator, to ensure smooth running of the fabrication area, and control all incoming deliveries, working closely with Supervisors and the Production Office to create a smooth transition of materials into the workshop.
Key Skills, Experience & Attributes
Certificated to drive a Counterbalance Forklift (Minimum 2.5 - training given)
Certified to use 5-10 Tonne Gantry cranes
Highly organised and methodical in approach to working practises
Ability to read numbers accurately with high attention to detail
Diligent and proactive, always thinking ahead.
Good communication skills
Highly Health and Safety conscious
Ability to deal with the physical requirements of the role, due to Manual Handling (90% of Time)
High level of accuracy in the use of Metric Tape Measure
Willingness to learn and flexible
Steel industry experience
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Review the production plan with the Supervisor, so that daily targets are clear.
When applicable, follow the Daily Procedures as follows:
Check contract and lot number of drawing issue sheets against contract being cut on the saws
Check length of bars and keep similar lengths together
Sling steels in a safe manner, ensuring all lifting equipment being used has correct tags and weight limits for the steels is within its lifting capacity
Using 10 Tonne cranes to lift steel into bays or storage area.
Tick off steels against the cut list to ensure the quality procedure is adhered to.
Identify missing parts and keep the supervisor informed of issues found.
When applicable, unload and check all incoming deliveries as follows:
Mark unloaded items with relevant project information
Report shortfalls to Supervisor/Production Office.
Check length of bars and keep similar lengths together
Sling steels in a safe manner ensuring all lifting equipment being used has correct tags and weight limits for the steels is within its lifting capacity.
