Calderglen House is a leading residential rehab facility within Scotland and are pleased to announce the opening of our sister Residential rehab in Symington, South Ayrshire.

will accommodate up to 24 residents, offering high-quality facilities and focuses on a person-centred approach to support individuals on their recovery journey. This organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults.

Job Purpose:



We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team on day shift at our residential rehabilitation service supporting individuals recovering from drug and alcohol dependency. This role is vital in providing clinical support, managing medication administration, monitoring for withdrawal or mental health concerns, and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents.

You will work within a trauma-informed, person-centred framework and be part of a multidisciplinary team committed to supporting recovery and harm reduction.

Key Responsibilities:



Clinical Care



Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care in line with individual recovery plans. Administer and manage medications in accordance with NMC standards and Controlled Drugs (CD) protocols. Monitor for signs of withdrawal, overdose, or mental health crisis, and respond appropriately. Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records and medication charts. Respond to medical emergencies using appropriate interventions and procedures. Escalate concerns in accordance with safeguarding, adult protection, and emergency protocols.

Substance Misuse Support



Collaborate with recovery workers, counsellors, and external agencies to deliver holistic care. Offer health education and harm reduction advice (e.g. relapse prevention, safer drug use, overdose response). Promote recovery-focused practices, encouraging client engagement in group work and structured daily activities.

Teamwork and Communication



Work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, including GPs, mental health professionals, and addiction specialists. Contribute to clinical meetings, handovers, and care planning reviews. Support colleagues, including practice assessor / supervisor for student nurses and participating in training. Complete handovers and communicate clearly with night staff and external professionals where appropriate. Promote a calm, respectful, and recovery-focused environment in line with trauma-informed and harm reduction principles.

Health & Safety



Ensure compliance with Health and Social Care Standards (Scotland), Care Inspectorate regulations, and service policies. Ensure safe administration and storage of medications, including controlled drugs. Comply with infection control procedures and other health and safety protocols.

Qualifications and Experience:



Requirements:



Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) - RGN, RMN, or RNLD. Knowledge or experience in substance use recovery, detox, mental health, or supported living environments. Strong understanding of withdrawal symptoms, relapse prevention, and dual diagnosis. Comfortable working independently overnight and managing emergency situations. Experience with medication management, including controlled drugs (e.g., methadone, buprenorphine). Excellent communication, decision-making, and record-keeping skills. Commitment to non-judgemental, person-centred care.

Desirable:



Experience in a residential rehab, detox unit, or addiction recovery setting. Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and motivational interviewing. Familiarity with electronic care systems (e.g., CareDocs, EMIS, or similar). Training in mental health first aid, suicide prevention (e.g., ASIST), or naloxone administration.

Additional Information:



You must be eligible to work in the UK and be registered to practice as a nurse in Scotland. PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) scheme membership is required. Day shift hours typically run from 8AM to 8PM depending on rota
