If you...
enjoy dealing with a variety of people
are self-motivated

We are looking for an exceptional individual with a compassionate attitude to join our existing Debt Recovery Team, with a primary responsibility for recovering monies owed to the Council across a wide range of services, such as Council Tax, Non-Domestic Rates, Housing Benefit Overpayments and corporate/sundry debts.
Although predominantly based at the Council's main office in Chichester this role does allow for the opportunity of working from home where operational needs of the service allow.
You will work alongside colleagues with a focus on collecting unpaid Council Tax and Business Rates in a fair and ethical manner from our residents and businesses. This will involve handling phone communications from customers to negotiate sustainable payment arrangements. Dealing with written enquiries, emails and face to face visits to the office.
For those customers needing additional support you will work closely with other teams within the division (Taxation, Benefits and Supporting You) and where appropriate external debt advisory organisations. You will also liaise with external agencies, with the Council's Enforcement Agents. You will have the ability to communicate sensitively, with care and empathy with a wide range of people throughout the Chichester district.
Ideally you will have experience within a debt recovery environment, the confidence to be able to manage difficult conversations and refined negotiation skills to obtain the best outcome for all parties. However, if you have proven experience with members of the public, face to face, written communication and on the telephone full training will be provided.
