ALTEN UK is seeking a skilled
Decommissioning Engineer
to promote the concept of
Design for Decommissioning
for our project within the Nuclear sector. You will work closely with system owners across the
Reactor Island
to ensure that designs incorporate features enabling safe, efficient, and cost-effective decommissioning of future of Nuclear projects.
Your main responsibilities will be:
Provide technical guidance
to system owners on embedding decommissioning features into designs.
Produce internal decommissioning procedures, strategies, and standards
, including documents for submission to regulators as part of the
Generic Design Assessment (GDA)
process.
Apply ALARP, BAT, and SFAIRP principles
to reactor system designs to ensure dismantling and decommissioning can be achieved effectively.
Engage with discipline leads
(e.g., radioactive waste, safety) and act as a stakeholder in design reviews, BAT assessments, and ALARP workshops.
Develop lessons learned
from industry experience to improve future reactor decommissioning approaches.
Represent the Decommissioning Team
in technical and project review forums.

Knowledgeable in
nuclear decommissioning and regulatory requirements

Skilled at
balancing safety, environmental, and engineering considerations

Able to work in
fast-paced multidisciplinary environments

An excellent
communicator and stakeholder engager
.
Proactive, analytical, and detail-oriented with a strong sense of accountability.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Experience, skills and qualifications required:
Degree-qualified
in Civil, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline.
Chartered
(or working towards chartership) with a relevant institute (e.g., IMechE).
Experience of
nuclear decommissioning or nuclear waste management
.
Familiarity with the
UK nuclear regulatory environment
and ability to present to regulators.
Understanding of
safety cases
and environmental assessments.
Experience in
optioneering
using BAT and ALARP arguments in design reviews.
Strong
stakeholder engagement and communication skills
.
Desirable:
Prior experience working on a
licensed nuclear site
.
Participation in
HAZOP workshops
and risk mitigation studies.
Experience collaborating across
multidisciplinary engineering teams
.
Broader exposure to
safety, environmental, or integrated E3S cases
.
