Job summary




Defence Intelligence (DI) is offering an exciting opportunity to join the largest cadre of intelligence analysts in Government. This role involves producing strategic assessments supporting the UK's national security policy and operational decision-making. DI is a key part of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and the wider national security community, providing insights into diverse and complex threats in today's rapidly changing world.


This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description




As an Intelligence Analyst at DI, you will work on a broad range of topics in the safeguarding of the UK. We inform and empower decision makers on defence and security topics such as threats affecting UK interests, countries, and regions in conflict or at risk of instability, and foreign military capabilities including cyber. We play a vital role in UK sanctions, arms control, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear counter-proliferation and counterintelligence. In DI, our analysts develop understanding, solve problems, build others' understanding, and give perspective to the diverse and complex threats and challenges in a rapidly changing world. DI collaborates closely with national and international partners across different government departments and intelligence agencies to provide comprehensive intelligence assessments. Often the information collated is contradictory and varies in reliability and as an analyst you will apply your subject matter expertise and structured analytical techniques to produce high-quality assessment.

We are seeking to recruit up to ten HEO/C2 all-source intelligence analysts.




Due to the sensitive nature of this post, you will be required to spend the majority of your working day in Main Building in London. However, DI does offer flexible working arrangements such as flexitime, compressed hours and job sharing. With potentially, working from home one day a week for specific tasks and with line manager agreement.

Responsibilities




Key Responsibilities include:

Developing Subject Matter Expertise in your area of responsibility and maintaining situational awareness, using all resources available to you. Deliver and communicate high quality, impactful intelligence assessments that adhere to the profession's analytical standards. Actively seek to expand your understanding through conducting research. Critically evaluate information and intelligence. Apply a range of critical and creative approaches and techniques to process information and answer customer requirements. Build and maintain positive working relationships with key customers and ensure intelligence output is aligned to their requirements, decision-making processes, and timelines. Participate fully in relevant national and international intelligence community collaboration processes and activities.

Qualifications



C or grade 4 in GCSE Maths or equivalent qualification and C or grade 4 in GCSE English Language or equivalent qualification. Either: a minimum of an undergraduate degree (2:1 or above, provisional or awarded)

OR



Evidence of relevant/critical skills from professional experience (such as research, intelligence analysis, previous military experience or application of critical thinking).

Essential



Can demonstrate the ability to analyse information thoroughly and form well-supported opinions rather than relying on personal biases or assumptions. Have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.

Desirable



Previous analytical experience in any of the following areas: Africa, Middle East, Russia, and Eastern Europe and Cyber. ###

The selection process after sifting consists of

two stages.




Online application followed by a sift

. Successful candidates at sift will be invited to a full day

in-person assessment centre in London.

Details of the assessment centre will be provided to successful sift candidates.


The sift is expected to be completed within 2-4 weeks of the closing date, depending on number of initial applications received. Interviews will occur as soon as possible after you receive the sift results. All dates are subject to change, especially if we receive a large number of applicants.

The minimum standard/score to be considered for the Assessment centre from the sift is a total of 20 (for CV, Personal Suitability Statement, Working Together and Delivering at Pace Success Behaviour) The minimum score of 20 applies to all candidates including those applying via the DCS and HM Armed Forces Veterans Schemes. It is permissible for a Veteran candidate to apply as both. In these situations, you will be treated as a Disability Guaranteed Interview Scheme candidate and that selection criteria.
The Civil Service aims to give veterans the best possible opportunity to succeed in joining the Civil Service by offering an interview to veterans if they meet the minimum criteria at the sift stage of the selection process. This means veterans must pass any online tests and meet the minimum criteria (as stipulated within the advert). The initiative will only apply to the sift stage, all applicants progressed to the interview stage will be assessed against the same criteria and any subsequent appointments will be made on the basis of merit. Veterans will need to have completed one year's service in HM Armed Forces to be eligible; this includes time spent in training; be in transition from or ceased to be a member of HM Armed Forces; and not already be a Civil Servant or be employed by a Civil Service Commission accredited public body.
