Programme Description

What does this team do?

The lawyer of the future is evolving and so is the Deloitte Legal training contract. We want to offer you the very best experience possible, as you develop an exciting career in a changing legal services market.

We aren't a traditional law firm, which is why we're moving away from the traditional rotational framework. Our new model will give all our new joiners a "home practice group", where you'll develop a broad experience of our entire business and a strong professional network. After a year in your home group, gaining deep understanding and building skills, you'll have the chance to undertake a secondment in other areas, before accessing other work groups in your final year.

Below are just some of the potential areas that you could choose for your home practice during your training period at Deloitte.

Corporate Law: We work with a wide range of businesses, from smaller, fast-growth firms to large global companies. Projects include advising on the funding of a technology company or buying, selling, or reorganising a global multinational firm.
Commercial Law: At the intersection of law and technology, we advise clients on leveraging the latest technologies, from AI to blockchain. Supported by the best legal technology, you will negotiate and deliver a range of commercial agreements, providing compliance advice to those operating in a dynamic, ever-evolving regulatory environment.
Employment Law: Our team advises both UK-based and global clients on the full range of employment law issues. Many employment issues straddle more than one subject area, so you'll frequently be part of a wide-ranging team.
Pensions: We assist clients in navigating the legal aspects of various pension schemes, collaborating with sponsoring employers and pension scheme trustees.
Real Estate: Working with developers, investors, occupiers and public bodies, the team has a wealth of experience in advising on major projects across a wide variety of sectors, delivering both routine and highly complex transactions.

What skills and academic qualifications do I need?

You will need to have obtained or be studying towards:

A 2:1 in a law degree, or commendation in Graduate Diploma of Law (GDL) or Common Professional Examination (CPE) qualification.
Achieved at least 104 UCAS points (260 UCAS points pre 2017) for your A levels (or equivalent).
At least a Grade 4 (C) in English Language and a Grade 4 (C) in Maths in your GCSEs (or equivalent).
You must be due to Graduate with a 2:1 degree by September 2026 to start in the Autumn 2026 cohort.

What kind of work will I do?

Our training model involves new joiners being allocated to a "home" practice group, and while you won't have formal rotations, you will still experience other teams and areas of our business during your time with your home practice. This will allow you to specialise as early as possible in your career. You will be allocated a "home" team rather than 5 six-month seats in different groups and while there are no formal rotations, you will get a broad and rich experience of working in/with other teams that are aligned with your "home" team via:

Project work,

Secondment,

Exam leave cover for other teams.

Where will I work?

At Deloitte we recognise how important face-to-face interaction is for your development in a new role. We also understand that our people need flexibility, which is why we operate a hybrid system, with a combination of office and home working. If you're in a client-facing role, you might be expected to attend client sites on certain days, while your meetings will be a mix of online and in-person events. Please note your final assessment and induction will also be in-person, to give you the opportunity to network and build relationships.

All our

work spaces

are accessible, however, if you require further flexibility due to a health condition or caring responsibilities, please discuss this with our team.

How will I develop?

A Deloitte Legal Training Contract allows you to qualify as a solicitor through the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE).

As a new student hire into Tax & Legal, you will also get the opportunity to attend the Tax & Legal Academy. The Academy will provide the opportunity for you to meet your peers, form long-lasting connections, and learn a comprehensive range of skills (both soft and technical skills), all of which will help you to feel ready and confident in your new role.

You'll then continue to have ongoing mentorship and training throughout your career.
