Birkbeck, University of London, has an excellent opportunity for a Demonstrator to join the teaching team on its programme, and support the this Autumn term.
As Demonstrator you will teach the module:
- level 7 * 30 hours of demonstrating

• Friday evening 6-9 pm, October - December 2025.

As Demonstrator, you'll assist in the delivery of predetermined programmes of teaching to Birkbeck Psychological Science students, under academic supervision, to facilitate the successful completion of their studies.
You should engage in the scholarship necessary to ensure good practice in teaching and to apply appropriate levels of knowledge in the subject areas to be taught.
Duties include assisting students as they work through pre-prepared pen and paper / computer based introductory research methods exercises including tasks about descriptive statistics, simple inferential statistical tests (t-test, chi-square, one-way and two-way ANOVA, linear regression, correlation), parts of a lab report, writing a pre-registration. Lab report marking is required for this role and marking training can be provided.
Most post-holders taking these roles will be employed as part of their general academic development to obtain practical teaching experience and will undertake this work independently but in parallel with postgraduate studies.
In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, candidates must have:

• A first degree in Psychology or an equivalent relevant qualification.
• Advanced experience in using a range of introductory and advanced statistical techniques and report writing suitable for quantitative psychological science research.
• A good working knowledge of SPSS.
• A good level of IT and communication technology skills particularly in application to standard packages (eg Word, Excel, OneDrive, Outlook, Teams, Moodle, general internet usage).
• The ability able to work both as part of a team and independently as appropriate and have the ability to support teaching.

Salary:
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate 23.96 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 6, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, and other examining duties in connection with the course.
