Job Title: Dental Hygienist

We are seeking an experienced, friendly and patient-focused, self-employed Dental Hygienist to join our team at our private dental practice in Petts Wood, Orpington. We are looking for a candidate who has a professional chair side manner, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and who embraces the practice's ethos and goals. As a vital member of our team, the Dental Hygienist will play a crucial role in ensuring high-quality patient care and maintaining a positive clinic environment. The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills, a strong focus on patient care, prevention and patient education.
We are a small start-up practice and it is imperative that you are hard working, work well in a team and enjoy your work to create a positive and harmonious working environment.
This position is for 1 day per week on a permanent basis.
Wednesdays 10.00 - 19.00
Start date: 01/10/2025
Pay rate: 26 per patient
Responsibilities:
provide dental hygiene care to a wide range of patients
educating patients on oral hygiene and preventative care
working closely with dentists and dental nurses to ensure the best patient experience
maintaining accurate clinical records and adhering to cross-infection and health & safety protocols
obtain a detailed dental history from patients and evaluate their medical history
carry out a clinical examination within your competence
complete periodontal examination and charting and use indices to screen and monitor periodontal disease
diagnose and treatment plan within your competence
plan the delivery of care for patients
give appropriate patient advice
provide preventive oral care to patients and liaise with dentists over the treatment of caries, periodontal disease and tooth wear
undertake supragingival and subgingival scaling and root surface debridement using manual and powered instruments
use appropriate anti-microbial therapy to manage plaque-related diseases
adjust restored surfaces in relation to periodontal treatment
apply topical treatments and fissure sealants
give patients advice on how to stop smoking
take intra and extra-oral photographs
give infiltration and inferior dental block analgesia
place temporary dressings and re-cement crowns with temporary cement
place rubber dam
take impressions
care of implants and treatment of peri-implant tissues
identify anatomical features, recognise abnormalities and interpret common pathology
carry out oral cancer screening
if necessary, refer patients to other healthcare professionals
keep complete, accurate and contemporaneous patient records
if working on a prescription, vary the detail but not the direction of the prescription according to the patient's needs
