JOB TITLE: PRACTICE MANAGER



LOCATION: Borehamwood



SALARY RANGE: 35,000-40,000 (dependent on experience)



REPORTS TO: Directors



DIRECT REPORTS: Nurses, Front of House, Treatment Coordinators and External Partners



About the Role



As Practice Manager at Smilewell Dental, you'll be the driving force behind the daily operations and overall success of the clinic. You'll oversee the smooth running of the practice, ensuring exceptional patient experience, operational excellence, and financial performance. This is a leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment and wants to be part of an ambitious, growing dental group.

Key Responsibilities



Team Leadership & HR

Lead, motivate, and develop the practice team through strong communication, training, and accountability. Recruit, onboard, and appraise staff, ensuring clarity in roles, goals, and expectations. Manage absence, holidays, and performance, ensuring full coverage across departments. Maintain compliance with employment law, GDC standards, and health & safety legislation.

Operational & Practice Management

Oversee the smooth day-to-day running of the practice, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures. Lead monthly practice meetings and produce performance and KPI reports for Directors. Optimise appointment scheduling and diary efficiency to maximise productivity. Maintain practice security, equipment servicing, and facility standards. Ensure rotas, staffing levels, and operational systems support seamless workflow.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

Ensure all CQC, HTM 01-05, and COSHH requirements are met. Conduct regular audits and oversee implementation of corrective actions. Manage patient complaints from start to resolution with empathy and professionalism. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and clinical documentation.

Financial & Business Management

Oversee daily cash handling, invoicing, and reconciliation processes. Manage budgets and support Directors in achieving income and profitability targets. Track financial performance through reports and identify opportunities for cost efficiency and growth. Ensure accurate banking, petty cash records, and adherence to financial procedures.

Essential skills and qualities:

Proven management experience within a dental or healthcare setting. Strong leadership and communication skills. Confident with financial management and reporting. Excellent knowledge of compliance and CQC standards. Ability to motivate teams and foster a positive culture. Tech-savvy with good working knowledge of dental software systems.
