We have an exciting part-time opportunity for a qualified Dental Therapist to join our Dental Education Facilities in Truro.

The post holder will provide high quality primary care dental therapy and hygiene services within our dental education facilities. Patients may be referred via student teaching clinics, from our team of qualified dentists or may be seen under Direct Access.

Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (PDSE) is an award-winning Community Interest Company that provides primary care dental treatment and outreach services to local communities in Devon and Cornwall. We work closely with the University of Plymouth's Peninsula Dental School to support the clinical education of its dental healthcare students.

You must be registered with the GDC and have completed a BSc in Dental Therapy.

This role includes:

Role summary:



To provide high quality dental therapy and hygiene services, utilising the full scope of practice, within the dental education facility. Patients may be referred via student teaching clinics, from our team of qualified dentists or may be seen under Direct Access. You will work in a team environment where dental education and development of the whole team is encouraged, to assist with patient management and flow.

Key accountabilities:



Work as part of a wider dental team to provide clinically appropriate, high quality dental treatment to patients, following all relevant standards and guidelines.

Utilising the full therapist scope of practice, providing treatment by referral, or under Direct Access.

Maintain PDSE standards of clinical governance, including infection control, patient confidentiality, clinical record keeping, etc.

Regularly carry out audits of clinical treatment, both own work and student treatment provision.

Ensure health and safety procedures are observed at all times

Support clinical dental education standards by working to evidence-based practice and National and locally agreed (Peninsula Dental School) clinical guidelines and care pathways

Support the work of the whole dental team employed by PDSE

Knowledge, Education and Training:



A BSc in Dental Hygiene/Therapy GDC registration

Broad dental knowledge, with up-to-date knowledge of aspects of general practice within your scope of practice

Experience:



Demonstrable clinical experience

Experience of independently managing own patient base.

Active in clinical dental therapy/hygiene practice

Skills:



First class clinical skills

Team player who plans ahead and is well organised

Excellent communication

Ability to provide concise explanations and clear direction and guidance

IT Skills including use of electronic dental patient record system and Microsoft Office packages

Normal working hours are 08:45 to 17:00 Monday to Friday, however on occasions to meet business need you will be required to work revised hours, typically between 08:00 and 18:00.

The Working Time Regulations apply to all employees of Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (CIC) In particular Peninsula Dental Social Enterprise (CIC) will not permit staff in all employments to work in excess of 48 hours in any one week except where there are exceptional service needs where an absolute limit of averaging over a reference period of 17 weeks would apply.
