Fresh Start Waste Services Ltd is seeking an experienced

Depot Manager

to lead the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our

Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and Transfer Station in Swinton

.

This is a senior operational leadership role offering autonomy, responsibility, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on performance, safety, and team culture.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Depot Manager will have full accountability for day-to-day site operations. You will lead, develop, and motivate site teams while ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across all areas of the facility.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management



Oversee all MRF and Transfer Station activities, ensuring waste is processed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with environmental permits Manage inbound and outbound waste streams in line with duty of care requirements Drive operational KPIs, productivity, throughput, and recovery performance Coordinate maintenance planning to minimise downtime and optimise plant performance Implement and support continuous improvement initiatives

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance



Take overall responsibility for site health, safety, and environmental standards Ensure full compliance with legal requirements, permits, and company policies Develop, implement, and review risk assessments, safe systems of work, and SOPs Lead incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are completed Maintain audit-ready standards and promote a strong safety culture

People Leadership



Provide strong, visible leadership to all site personnel Manage staffing levels, shift patterns, performance reviews, and training Deliver effective communication through daily briefings, toolbox talks, and meetings Manage employee relations matters in line with company procedures

Stakeholder & Commercial Control



Liaise with internal stakeholders, customers, and regulatory bodies Support external audits, inspections, and site visits Manage site budgets, cost control, and operational reporting Ensure all records, weighbridge data, and compliance documentation are accurate and up to date
Essential Requirements

NEBOSH General Certificate Proven management experience within waste, recycling, or a heavy industrial environment Demonstrable leadership and people management capability Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Desirable

WAMITAB / COTC Level 4 (Treatment & Transfer - Non-Hazardous or Hazardous) Experience with automated sorting systems or recycling technologies Formal management or vocational qualifications

What We Offer

Salary of 50,000 per annum Bonus scheme following successful completion of probation Monday to Friday working hours (09:00 - 18:00) Permanent role within a growing and reputable waste management business
