Job summary
Defence Intelligence is integral to the security and prosperity of the UK. As the Deputy Director All-Source Intelligence Assessment you will be responsible for providing intelligence assessment in support to decision-makers in Defence and the wider UK government. The Defence Intelligence All-Source Assessments Teams plays a central role in the UK's effort to prevent proliferation and to hold countries to account for non-compliance to international safeguards and treaties.
The areas directly overseen by this role comprise of world experts in individual disciplines across the following responsibilities:
Chemical Weapons;
Counter Proliferation, including support to UK export controls;
Medical, and Biosecurity;
Radiological and Nuclear.
This is a high profile, demanding and wide ranging role delivering decision advantage to the government on critical threats facing the UK. This role involves leading a team of both civilian and military staff, offering strategic oversight, subject matter expertise and leadership to a high-performing team of intelligence analysts. The job holder is expected to promote innovation, collaboration, and joint working to enhance opportunities for continuous improvement.

Job description
Key Responsibilities
The current responsibilities of the role include:
Oversight of the operational outputs of specialist units, capturing requirements, maintaining production standards, engaging with customers, and overseeing research budgets exceeding 1 million.
Contributing to and leading Defence Intelligence efforts in support of relevant Ministry of Defence (MOD) and His Majesty's Government (HMG) strategies. This includes counter acquisition work, providing insights into Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) threats to shape policy, capability, operational, and acquisition decisions across the Government.
Developing Defence Intelligence's future CBRN intelligence assessment capability by sustaining and enhancing subject matter expertise, ensuring continuous professional development, refining knowledge management processes, and leveraging new technologies. This involves advocating for analytical methods and advanced quantitative techniques.
Promoting collaborative activities across government, leading domestic and international engagement with allies and partners on post specific issues, and supporting across Government efforts.
As part of the senior leadership team, contributing to Defence Intelligence's corporate management and transformation programme, advocating for inclusion, innovation, and diversity of thought. Responsibilities also include managing your Defence Intelligence staff, budgets, and business processes.

Person specification
The ability to build, lead and manage a large and diverse team, encouraging innovation and fostering an inclusive environment.
Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to interface across government on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (weapons or threats), and Science and Technology issues.
Sound judgement and clarity of thought with the ability to rapidly assimilate information and deliver robust assessment and presentation of technical analysis both verbally and in writing.
Excellent communication and influencing skills with the credibility and interpersonal skills to command the trust and confidence of senior officials, colleagues and staff.
Ability to be resilient under pressure offering support and effective communication with team members.
Strong scientific and technical background, able to apply that expertise in an analytical context and able to communicate policy implications in both technical and non-technical settings.
