The Saint John Henry Newman School is seeking a motivated, organised and committed individual to join our team as a
Deputy Exams Officer
. In this key role, you will support the Exams Officer in coordinating and administering all internal and external examinations throughout the school year. You will play an important part in ensuring that exam processes run smoothly, securely and in full compliance with Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) regulations, helping our students achieve their best in a calm and well-managed environment. This position is
37 hours per week, term time only, plus one additional week in August
to support GCSE and A-Level results days, as well as
one INSET day
.
Prior exams experience is
not essential
, as full training will be provided and the role can be confidently learned on the job. However, experience working in an educational setting--particularly with SEND processes, access arrangements or supporting pupils with additional needs--would be highly beneficial. A significant part of the role involves liaising with the SEND Department to maintain accurate and up-to-date access arrangement records and arranging appropriate exam rooms and invigilation for pupils who require adjustments.
Your responsibilities will include supporting the preparation of exam timetables, organising exam rooms, assisting with the secure storage and dispatch of papers, responding to student and parent enquiries, and helping with post-results services such as re-sit applications and reviews of marking. You will also support the timely submission of entries, assessment data and registrations to awarding bodies. Peak examination seasons will occasionally require the working day to be extended--for example, to accommodate exam set-up, secure storage processes, and pupils with extra time. Any additional hours worked during these periods will be agreed with your line manager and compensated either through time-sheeted hours or time in lieu. During your interview, the school will provide a clear overview of when these peak exam periods occur within the academic year and what to expect.
The successful candidate will become part of a warm and supportive school community that is proud of its Catholic ethos and commitment to student wellbeing. All staff are expected to uphold and contribute to our values. We offer ongoing training, development opportunities and a collaborative working environment. Due to the nature of the role and its contact with students, an enhanced DBS check is required.
