Overview of role:



The Assistant General Manager supports the General Manager in overseeing and coordinating the operational, financial, and people management aspects of catering services across assigned sites or contracts.
The role ensures that service standards, client expectations, and company objectives are met consistently through effective leadership, operational control, and continuous improvement.

Main Responsibilities:



Support the General Manager in the day-to-day running of catering operations to ensure efficient, high-quality, and compliant service delivery.

Oversee multiple sites or departments, ensuring operational consistency and adherence to company standards.

Monitor and maintain compliance with all relevant legislation, including food safety, health and safety, and employment regulations.

Conduct regular site visits and operational audits to ensure quality and performance standards are met.

Manage stock control, ordering, and supplier relationships in line with budgetary requirements.

Lead, support, and develop site managers, supervisors, and teams to deliver excellent customer service and operational results.

Support recruitment, induction, and training processes in line with company policies.

Conduct performance reviews, address employee relations issues, and ensure effective communication across teams.

Promote a positive working culture that reflects the company's values of respect, teamwork, and inclusion.

Support the General Manager in maintaining and developing strong client relationships, ensuring that expectations are met and exceeded.

Act as a point of contact for clients in the General Manager's absence, ensuring professional and timely communication.

Participate in client meetings and reviews, providing operational insight and contributing to service development.

Assist with the preparation and management of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.

Monitor operational costs, labour efficiency, and productivity levels, taking corrective action where necessary.

Support commercial opportunities, such as service development and business retention initiatives.

Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation and service enhancement.

Implement and monitor performance indicators to track service quality and operational success.

Contribute to the development and delivery of company strategies, policies, and procedures.

Essential Skills & Knowledge



Strong leadership and people management abilities.

Proven experience in catering, hospitality, or food service management.

Excellent organisational and planning skills with strong attention to detail.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.

Sound understanding of operational, financial, and compliance processes.

Ability to analyse performance data and implement improvements.

Solid knowledge of health & safety, food hygiene, and environmental standards.

Competent IT skills (Microsoft Office, reporting systems, scheduling tools).
