The Packhorse - a lively and much-loved venue operated by Royal Holloway Students' Union - is seeking a
Deputy Venue Manager
to help lead our front-line operations and drive continued excellence in service, standards, and staff development.
About the Role
As Deputy Venue Manager, you'll be a vital part of the Packhorse management team, working closely with the Venue Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of the bar and kitchen. This hands-on role involves everything from stock control and budgeting to event coordination and staff leadership.
You'll play a key role in developing our offer, improving financial performance, and maintaining high standards in food hygiene, customer service, and compliance. You'll also lead a team of student and community staff, ensuring they're trained, motivated, and delivering great service.
Key Responsibilities
Provide operational leadership across bar and kitchen services
Line manage and develop a team of casual staff
Maintain high standards in stock control, health & safety, food hygiene and licensing compliance
Support budget management, forecasting, and financial performance analysis
Collaborate with marketing and events teams to promote the venue and deliver a diverse social calendar
Deputise for the Venue Manager when needed and act as key holder
About You
We're looking for someone with:
Substantial experience in a supervisory or management role within a high-volume pub, bar, or hospitality venue
Strong understanding of licensing, food hygiene, health & safety, and stock management
Proven ability to lead, train, and inspire a team
Experience working with EPOS systems and stock control
A customer-first mindset and passion for delivering high-quality service
A proactive approach to innovation and problem-solving
Desirable Qualifications
Personal Licence Holder (preferred)
Level 3 Food Hygiene
First Aid at Work
