Role

: To work closely with the Manager, Admin and Finance and Rehab Team to ensure high quality rehabilitation support is provided to individuals with an acquired brain injury, and their families, and act as first point of contact with health and social care professionals and other related parties.

He/she will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operational functions of the charity, maintain partnerships with health and social care professionals and other related parties with an interest in ABI; promote Edinburgh Headway Group's projects and services, designed to benefit effective patient pathways for Acquired Brain Injury patients; and act as point of contact for patients, families, health and social care professionals and other related parties.

In addition, he/she will supervise rehab staff (including training) and in absence of the Manager will deputise in their place across all organisational areas.

Key tasks, duties & responsibilities

:

1. Develop and promote Edinburgh Headway Group's services as a referral pathway for patients and families focusing on head injury / stroke

2. Support the Manager to facilitate and inform collaborative working with local statutory and third sector organisations and other key stakeholders

3. Act as first point of contact for referrals and develop strong, cohesive cross collaborative working relationships with all those involved in direct support of the patients and family members, to assist in discharge planning or onward referral to EHG. This may include: A&E and neurosurgical partners within Edinburgh hospitals; health and social care professionals across city localities, GP's, third sector partners etc

4. Maintain contact with NHS Outreach Nurses and other health & social care professionals to establish when support for family is required to enable referral to EHG/signpost.

5. Ensure EHG services are flexible and developed to best meet the needs of members and carers and assist the Manager and others with the development and introduction of new projects and services

6. Inform and coach in health and safety measures, including Infection Control and Fire Regulations.

7. Oversee the collection of data (quantitative and qualitative) about member issues and their needs to inform the work of EHG and beyond.

8. Keep accurate records in line with Policies and Procedures and in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

9. Provide reports, as required by the Manager and Finance.

10. Carry out any such other reasonable task as may from time to time be deemed necessary.

11. Supervise staff effectively, setting out clear objectives and monitoring using regular support and supervision communications

12. Be aware of and work within budget lines set out for full financial year

EHG requires all staff:



To attend regular, debriefing, supervision sessions and annual appraisal.

To keep accurate records in accordance with the Data Protection Act / GDPR

To continually develop knowledge and awareness of issues affecting survivors of brain injury and their carer's

To work as part of a team, assist in creating a philosophy, which is motivational, professional and educational and identifies goal setting and outcome achievements based on an enabling culture

Provide such reports as are required by the Manager.

In conjunction with the Business Manager, take joint responsibility for monitoring, evaluating and developing this role

Person Specification



Knowledge and understanding of ABI and /or other neurological conditions and the impact on survivors and their families (preferable)
Outstanding communication, relationship building and networking skills

Experience of managing services and monitoring performance against agreed objectives
Experience of organising and administering own workload, with an ability to prioritise and meet deadlines

Proven ability to manage resources effectively and to set, monitor, report on and manage a budget

Experience of working jointly across agencies and disciplines to secure positive outcomes

A good understanding of care in the community and welfare benefits, as well as knowledge of the statutory and voluntary sector health and social care providers (preferable)

Knowledge of health and safety, including risk assessment within the working environment.

Excellent administrative skills, IT skills, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Access or other database, and social media

Ability to independently produce statistical reports using databases and spreadsheets

Good time management skills, and the ability to manage a diverse workload and prioritise effectively

Able to recognise limitations of skills and knowledge and liaise with Manager, when necessary
