We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Manager to support the leadership team within our nursing home. The ideal candidate will possess strong management skills, experience in nursing home or hospital environments, and a compassionate approach to looking after frail elderly people. This role involves overseeing daily operations, leading on clinical governance systems, supervising staff, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality personalised care plans for our residents. The Deputy Manager will play a vital part in maintaining a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment for all residents. The Deputy Manager will be asked to assist the Registered Manager and Trustees in promoting the ethos of Christianity, underpinned by a care service to residents and families that emphasises kindness, compassion, and empathy at all times.
Duties
Ensure that high standards of care are delivered to meet the needs of the individual resident, to monitor and maintain these standards, and take steps to address any shortfall in the service. Ensuring that residents' physical, emotional and social needs are identified and met through assessment and care planning. Ensuring that residents are assisted to maintain their dignity, choice and individuality.
Ensure each resident's spiritual needs are met as far as is practicable. Ensure equal respect and privacy is given to those residents who profess no faith or religion.
Assist the Registered Manager and Trustees in promoting the ethos of Christianity, underpinned by a care service to residents and families that emphasises kindness, compassion, and empathy at all times.
Maintain a robust programme of clinical governance and quality assurance at the home. Establish effective systems for the management and oversight of clinical key performance indicators and resident outcomes.
Take the lead in conducting regular clinical governance meetings. Prepare reports on clinical activity, monitor trends, and analyse performance indicators such as falls, pressure ulcers, and medication errors.
Coordinate a range of clinical audits, delegating the completion of audits to responsible professionals, and ensuring each audit is completed by their monthly deadline. Create action plans to address any failure or non-compliance.
Oversee and engage with the nursing and care staff to provide a safe, homely and stimulating environment for the residents of Compton House.
Demonstrate strong leadership and management skills to create a supportive, positive working environment that is inclusive and actively promotes equal opportunities for everyone.
Work within the Care and Quality Commission (CQC) regulatory framework and be compliant with all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. Submit CQC notifications about activity at the home in a timely fashion.
Be supportive of the Christian Ethos of the home and continuously improve the service through innovative leadership.

In the absence of the Registered Manager, the deputy manager is expected to take charge of the home and effectively manage the service in conjunction with the Trustees.
To oversee the nursing and care management of the Home, in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and work within a legislative framework to ensure that all nursing and care practices within the Home are in line with current legislation, regulations and best practice guidance.
To oversee the daily nursing care of the home, through the management of the teams of nursing and care staff, ensuring that the care provided offers residents the highest standard of person-centred care and that all individuals using the service are treated with dignity, respect and that independence, choice and control is actively promoted.
To embrace current technologies to drive efficiency and communications between staff and residents. Ensure that electronic care plans and medication management systems are used effectively by the nursing and care teams.
Residents
To ensure that the assessment and admission procedure for prospective and new residents is robust and considers the needs of the existing residents. In conjunction with the reception team, ensure that all enquiries are documented and followed up in a timely manner.
To ensure that residents receive the highest possible quality care, are safe, happy and content in line with all relevant regulatory requirements.
To oversee the development of individual Plans of Care and Risk Assessments, ensuring that they are documented in 'real time' and regularly evaluated. Maintain oversight of monthly care plan reviews by the allocated named nurses. Facilitate documented 6-monthly care reviews with each resident and next of kin.
To ensure that all care and treatment is appropriate and undertaken in line with professional medical direction and complies with legislative requirements.
To develop effective working relationships with multidisciplinary external teams of healthcare professionals including: GPs, pharmacist, tissue viability nurses, dieticians, hospice nurses and Social Services etc.
To line manage the Wellbeing Lead to ensure that a varied activities programme is maintained and to encourage mutually beneficial relationships with local community groups, in order to promote as fulfilling a life as possible for the people who live here.
Through sensitive forward planning, ensure that residents receiving end of life care are given a dignified and good death, supporting and encouraging staff, residents and relatives in making their final wishes known and documented.
To use a range of effective communication methods, including regular minutes of meetings, with residents and relatives to ensure people are well informed, engaged and able to give regular feedback, formally and informally, on any aspect of the service.
To encourage residents and their relatives, to comment on the service, responding to ideas and suggestions and addressing any concerns or complaints according to our policy.
