The Deputy Manager supports the General Manager in the effective day-to-day running of a busy bar. This role is hands-on, leading from the front while ensuring high standards of service, strong team performance, and full compliance with company policies and licensing laws. The Deputy Manager takes responsibility for the venue in the absence of the General Manager. Key Responsibilities Operations & Service Support the General Manager in all aspects of daily operations Take responsibility for opening, closing, and running shifts Lead service during busy periods, ensuring smooth and efficient operation Ensure the venue is clean, safe, and well-presented at all times Deal professionally with customer complaints and incidents Team Leadership & People Management Lead, motivate, and support the Front of House team and Team Leaders Assist with recruitment, training, inductions, and ongoing development Manage rotas, shift planning, and staff deployment Conduct return-to-work meetings, informal performance discussions, and support disciplinary processes where required Cash, Stock & Financial Control Oversee cash handling, safe counts, and till procedures Support stock control, ordering, deliveries, and stock takes Monitor wastage, GP, and cost control measures Ensure all financial procedures are followed accurately Compliance, Health & Safety Ensure full compliance with licensing laws, Challenge 25, and responsible alcohol service Maintain health & safety, COSHH, and food hygiene standards Ensure company policies and procedures are followed consistently Act as Duty Manager and key holder when required Communication & Business Support Act as a key point of contact between the team and the General Manager Communicate company standards, promotions, and objectives clearly Support initiatives to improve sales, service, and operational efficiency Report incidents, maintenance issues, and operational concerns Skills & Experience Required Previous management or supervisory experience in a busy bar or hospitality environment Strong knowledge of bar operations and customer service Confident leadership and people-management skills Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure Good understanding of cash, stock, and compliance procedures Personal Attributes Professional, reliable, and organised Hands-on leadership style with strong attention to detail Approachable and confident communicator Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and late nights What We Offer Competitive salary or hourly rate (depending on experience) Clear progression opportunities to General Manager Staff discounts A fast-paced, supportive, and professional working environment
