We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Manager to join our brand new EBD Children's Home in the New Parks area of Leicester. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of our Children's home, ensuring that the children and young people receive the highest standard of care. This position requires strong leadership skills, a background in residential homes, and a passion for enhancing the quality of life for our children and young people.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate is required to support the Registered Manager in delivering a high-quality residential service for children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Disorders (EBD). The Deputy Manager will help create a stable, nurturing, and therapeutic environment that promotes safety, resilience, personal growth, and emotional well-being.
Assist in the day-to-day management of the children's home and lead the staff team with a child-centred, trauma-informed approach.
Promote positive outcomes in all areas of the children's lives, including education, health, relationships, and emotional development.
Lead by example in managing challenging behaviours using appropriate behaviour management strategies (e.g., de-escalation, restorative practices).
Ensure the consistent implementation of individualised care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour support plans.
Support recruitment, induction, supervision, and ongoing training and development of care staff.
Contribute to and monitor quality assurance and regulatory compliance, ensuring the home meets all Ofsted standards.
Build effective relationships with children, families, social workers, education professionals, and other stakeholders.
Act as a safeguarding lead when required, and ensure safeguarding concerns are reported and addressed promptly and correctly.
Deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence, including decision-making and external liaison.
Person Specification
Essential:
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent); willingness to work toward the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care (Children and Young People).
At least 2 years' experience working in a children's residential setting, with direct experience supporting children with EBD.
Proven leadership experience, including supervising or mentoring staff.
Strong understanding of safeguarding, trauma-informed care, and behavioural support strategies.
Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and professional under pressure.
Excellent communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills.
Flexible to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins.
Desirable:
Training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), or similar.
Experience of contributing to Ofsted inspections.
Full UK driving licence.
