We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Manager to join our care home team. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a compassionate approach to care. As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in the safe and effective running of a newly registered care home. You will help to establish high-quality standards of care, maintain regulatory compliance, lead and mentor staff, and ensure the home operates smoothly during its start-up phase and beyond. You will act as the Manager in their absence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Management
Support the Registered Manager in all aspects of home management and service development.
Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to care staff, promoting a positive team culture.
Contribute to workforce planning, recruitment, onboarding, and training activities.
Ensure all staff work in line with policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Lead staff meetings, handovers, and briefings as required.
2. Care Quality & Compliance
Support the implementation of policies, procedures, and quality assurance systems appropriate for a newly registered service.
Ensure the home meets CQC (or relevant regulatory body) standards at all times.
Monitor care delivery and documentation to ensure it meets person-centred, evidence-based practice.
Assist with internal audits, care plan reviews, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
Promote safeguarding, whistleblowing, and resident rights throughout the service.
3. Resident Care & Support
Foster a culture of respect, dignity, well-being, and independence for all residents.
Support the development and review of care plans, risk assessments, and personal support strategies.
Engage with residents, families, and external professionals to ensure continuity of care.
Respond effectively to concerns, complaints, or changes in resident needs.
4. Operational Responsibilities
Support with rota planning, medication management, and efficient day-to-day operations.
Help manage budgets, supplies, equipment checks, and home environment standards.
Ensure records are accurate, up to date, and compliant with data protection requirements.
Contribute to the development of the home's culture, identity, and reputation as a new service.
5. Acting as Manager in Absence
Take responsibility for the home when the Registered Manager is off-site.
Make decisions that ensure safety, compliance, and continuity of service.
Liaise with regulators, professionals, and families when required.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
Experience in a senior care role (e.g., Team Leader, Senior Carer, Deputy Manager).
NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) and working towards Level 5.
Strong understanding of CQC regulations and requirements for a newly registered home.
Experience supervising staff and leading shifts.
Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care (or willingness to complete).
Experience working with older adults
