We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deputy Manager to join our team in providing exceptional care within the care home. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the management of daily operations, ensuring high standards of care for residents, and fostering a positive environment for both staff and residents. This position requires strong leadership skills and a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for those in our care.
Duties
Assist the Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the care home, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.
Lead and support a team of care staff, providing guidance and training to enhance their skills in areas such as dementia care and medication administration.
Develop, implement, and review individual care plans tailored to meet the specific needs of residents.
Foster a supportive environment that promotes resident wellbeing and dignity, encouraging independence where possible.
Monitor the quality of care provided, conducting regular assessments and audits to ensure high standards are maintained.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals, families, and external agencies to coordinate comprehensive care for residents.
Handle administrative tasks including record keeping, staff scheduling, and reporting on operational performance.
provide effective leadership and support for the care team within the home..
Supervise the care team on a day to day basis and through formal supervision.
Act as a mentor for new colleagues joining the care team or for those who require specific support to develop skills or knowledge.
Act as the person in charge of the home in the absence of the Manager ensuring that legislation is adhered to and standards are maintained
To be an active and encouraging senior member of the Care team, responsible for running team meetings, ensuring good communication and leading the induction and training of newly appointed care assistants.
As part of your role as Deputy Manager you will be required to be on call for the home in the case of an emergency. To maintain skills and knowledge and ensure that care is delivered according to latest guidelines and best practice evidence available
Maintain skills and keep up to date with clinical developments and best practice in areas relevant to care delivery in the home.
Understanding and complying with statutory and legal requirements that are relevant, including; Health & Safety, COSHH, all aspects of the Health & Social Care Act to ensure that all care teams and other staff maintain a safe environment throughout the home.
Develop links with local nurse specialists and teams e.g. continence nurse, tissue viability nurse, falls service etc. and ensure that residents are referred according to local procedures and protocols.
Provide support in relation to medicines management and be able to assess colleague's competency to manage medication.
Promote and maintain the delivery of safe, effective and high quality services
Work with the home manager to formulate strategies for service development or changes in service provision and support implementation
Assist the home manager to meet all relevant regulatory, contract and good practice standards.
To provide the highest level of personal care and attention to residents, following individual care plans carefully and ensuring that all contact is polite, friendly, warm and supportive. To act as a key worker for a named group of residents, ensuring that these responsibilities are carried out in full.
To participate in the formulation of individual care plans for each resident and administer medication to residents as prescribed, accurately maintaining appropriate records for both.
To always be alert to residents physical and mental well being, immediately dealing with and reporting any changes in a resident's condition. Liaising with other care professionals as required, and ensuring that all records are updated accurately.
Collate performance information required for the monthly management and other reports as required by the home manager.
Undertake audits as required by the home manager and clinical and care governance. Ensure action plans are fully implemented.
Review accidents and incidents and ensure that lessons learnt are translated into practice. Conduct investigations as directed by the home manager, following an accident, incident or complaint.
Ensure high standard of record keeping is maintained in accordance with company requirements.
Ensure that clinical equipment is maintained in a safe, clean and fully functional state and that colleagues are competent and confident to use it.
Report any concerns regarding poor performance, misconduct or unsafe practice via line management and if necessary agree appropriate action to be taken.
Intervene immediately in situations where there is significant risk to residents.
Understand and implement Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults and the Mental Capacity Act policies and procedures taking responsibility for reporting any safeguarding concerns to the senior person on duty / on call or the Operations Director.
Maintaining necessary residents confidentiality.
Undertaking general care assistant duties throughout the home as needed.
Qualifications
Proven leadership experience within a home care or nursing home setting is essential.
A background in assisted living or dementia care is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of care plans and medication administration practices.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with residents, families, and staff.
A compassionate approach to caregiving with a focus on enhancing resident quality of life.
Relevant qualifications in nursing or health management would be advantageous.
