Purpose of the Role
The Deputy Manager and SENCO will support the Nursery Manager in the day-to-day leadership and management of New Road Nursery while leading on inclusion and SEND practice. The role ensures high-quality care, education, safeguarding, and inclusive provision in line with the EYFS, SEND Code of Practice, and Ofsted requirements. This position will be based working with the children with at least one day in the office per week to complete paperwork.
Support the Nursery Manager in the effective day-to-day running of the nursery
Act as Manager in their absence
Lead, motivate, and support staff to deliver high-quality early years practice
Support staff supervision, appraisals, inductions, and professional development
Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times
Maintain a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment
Support compliance with EYFS, Ofsted, health and safety, and welfare requirements
Build strong partnerships with parents, carers, and professionals
Monitor and support high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment
Support staffing ratios and operational organisation
SENCO Responsibilities
Lead on SEND provision in line with the SEND Code of Practice (0-5 years)
Identify and support children with additional or emerging SEND
Develop, implement, and review Individual Support Plans (ISPs)
Observe, assess, and track progress of children with SEND
Support staff with inclusive strategies and reasonable adjustments
Liaise with parents and carers to ensure effective communication
Work with external professionals such as health visitors and therapists
Support transitions within the nursery and into school
Maintain accurate SEND records and documentation
Promote equality, inclusion, and diversity
Safeguarding
Act as a safeguarding lead or deputy safeguarding lead where appropriate. Ensure concerns are recorded and reported in line with nursery policy and statutory guidance.
Person Specification Essential
Level 3 Early Years qualification or above
SENCO training or willingness to complete
Experience working in an early years setting
Knowledge of EYFS, SEND Code of Practice, and safeguarding
Strong leadership and communication skills
Commitment to inclusive practice
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: From 14.70 per hour
