We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Deputy Manager to join our team in a care home environment.
Purpose of the Role:
To support the Registered Manager in delivering high-quality, safe, and person-centred supported accommodation for young people aged 16+. The Deputy Manager / Team Leader is responsible for supervising staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting positive outcomes for young people through effective leadership, risk management, and care planning.
Key Responsibilities:Operational Management
Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the service
Lead and coordinate shifts, ensuring appropriate staffing and supervision
Support with rota planning, shift cover, and on-call duties
Maintain oversight of placement needs and ensure support is tailored accordingly
Safeguarding & Risk Management
Monitor safeguarding concerns and escalate as required
Carry out and review risk assessments, behaviour support plans, and incident reports
Ensure staff follow safeguarding protocols and lone working procedures
Support investigations and incident debriefs as necessary
Staff Supervision & Development
Provide regular supervisions and informal support to staff
Mentor junior staff and promote professional development
Deliver or coordinate staff training and inductions
Monitor staff performance and report concerns to the Registered Manager
Support to Young People
Build positive, professional relationships with young people
Oversee keywork sessions, care plans, and goal setting
Support with transitions, education, employment, and independence skills
Promote young people's rights, choices, and inclusion
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Support with audits, inspections, and regulatory visits (e.g. Ofsted)
Contribute to Regulation 45 reports and continuous improvement planning
Ensure accurate and timely record-keeping, including logs, plans, and reports
Maintain awareness of relevant legislation and best practice
Person Specification:
Essential Criteria
Qualifications
Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People) or equivalent
Experience
Minimum 2 years' experience working with young people in supported accommodation or similar setting
Knowledge
Understanding of safeguarding, risk management, and support planning for vulnerable young people
Skills
Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
Ability to work flexibly including evenings, weekends, and on-call
Attributes
Empathetic, reliable, and committed to young people's wellbeing
Able to act calmly under pressure and take responsibility in emergencies
Desirable Criteria
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care (or willingness to work towards)
Experience in a supervisory or team leader role
Familiarity with Ofsted Supported Accommodation Regulations and Children Act 1989
Ability to manage conflict and promote positive behaviour
Proficiency in report writing and use of digital systems (e.g. care management software)
