le: Deputy Service Lead - Blood Transfusion



Location:

Primarily based at the main laboratory at Shropshire House, London. There may be a requirement to attend shifts at the other HCA satellite laboratory at London Bridge where required.

Hours:

Full time/Permanent - internal shift rotations, including 8am - 4:30pm, 10.00am - 6.30pm and 12.00pm - 8.30pm; Also, to include some weekends covering the hours of 8am - 8.30pm and occasional night cover if required.

HCA Laboratories has over 35 years' experience in providing pathology services, for acute care in our HCA Hospitals, IVF Clinics, Insurance work, healthcare screening and GP services. We cover all disciplines in pathology including allergy, biochemistry and endocrinology, haematology and blood transfusion, histopathology and cytology, immunology, and microbiology and serology, with each laboratory equipped with the best available analytical instrumentation.

Duties and Responsibilities



Assist and deputise for the Service Lead and /or Technical Services Manager for Transfusion with the day to day & strategic management of the Section Provide support for multi-disciplinary staff during On-Call and at weekends Follow HCA Labs standing policies and procedures to ensure an efficient delivery of laboratory service. Establish and develop departmental policies and procedures to ensure an efficient delivery of laboratory service. Responsible for the training, supervision and development of all non-medical staff within the department and users of the service as appropriate. Ensure KPI metrics are maintained. Ensure adequate and appropriate supplies available in the department and ensure stock rotation. Establish and maintain adequate quality control/assurance programmes in line with laboratory policy and accreditation requirements. Communication and education of laboratory policies to users. Interpretation, validation and timely reporting of results Monitor and enter results from referral laboratories Report non-compliances and incidents and take corrective action as appropriate Act as professional lead for Biomedical scientist staff within Transfusion. Establish and maintain safe working conditions within the defined HCA policy.

Skills and Experience



HCPC Registration Accredited BSc Transfusion Specialist Portfolio or BBTS Specialist certificate in Transfusion Science IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma in Transfusion Science or IBMS accredited MSc with Transfusion Science education course equivalent to 45 Level 7 CATS points MSc in another Biomedical Science discipline in conjunction with an IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma in Transfusion Science or a Transfusion Science education course equivalent to 45 Level 7 CATS points At least 5-years experience in a Senior role in Blood Transfusion Evidence of continual personal development (CPD)
