Voltempo is developing rapid DC HyperCharging solutions for a range of commercial vehicle sectors, initially here in the UK, but progressively internationally as the transport sector electrifies. The company holds several international patents, it is engaged in the end-to-end design, supply, site commissioning and servicing of charging solutions, targeting commercial vehicles. The business is currently scaling and is well supported by both its international shareholders and its role under the UK Government eFreight2030 programme, where it is leading a consortium of UK logistics fleet operators to deploy the UK's first eHGVs charging network.
About the Role:
The Deputy Team Leader supports the Production Team Leader in the daily supervision of technicians on the shop floor. This role ensures production tasks are allocated, quality and safety standards are maintained, and progress is clearly reported. The Deputy Team Leader provides hands-on support, acts as the first point of contact for technicians, and escalates issues when required.
This role is critical in maintaining workflow continuity, enabling the Team Leader to focus on technical, customer, and cross-functional responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Shift & Technician Supervision
o Directly supervises technicians during shift operations.
o Allocates daily tasks according to the production plan and priorities.
o Monitors adherence to work instructions, quality standards, and safety protocols.
o Ensures 5S compliance and end-of-shift handover standards are met.
Reporting & Communication
o Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions to guide production operations.
o Work with the manufacturing engineering team to communicate recurring issues, suggest process improvements, and ensure manufacturability of designs.
o Support the implementation of engineering change requests (ECRs)
o Records and reports daily progress, production metrics, and issues team leader
o Communicates task priorities, operational changes, and performance expectations to technicians.
o Provides feedback to the Team Leader on technician performance, skills gaps, and training needs.
Operational Support
o Provides hands-on assistance with troubleshooting, assembly issues, and line balancing.
o Supports onboarding and training of new technicians.
o Ensures proper use of tools, fixtures, and test equipment.
o Escalates equipment, quality, or resource issues to management or engineering for resolution.
Team Engagement & First-Line Support
o Acts as the first point of contact for technicians with operational or procedural queries.
o Promotes a safe and collaborative work environment.
o Reinforces continuous improvement, lean practices, and adherence to SOPs.
Safety & Compliance Enforcement
o Ensure adherence to workplace safety standards, particularly when working with high-voltage equipment.
o Enforce compliance with PPE requirements, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and electrical safety protocols.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
Experience supervising technicians in a production or assembly environment.
Strong organisational skills to manage daily task allocation.
Ability to read and follow work instructions and SOPs.
Good problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.
Strong communication skills, able to liaise between technicians and management.
Knowledge of safety protocols, PPE, and quality standards.
Preferred:
Experience in electrical or mechanical assembly within manufacturing.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and 5S.
Hands-on experience with high-voltage or electrical safety.
Work Environment & Schedule:
Fast-paced production environment with daily output targets.
Close collaboration with technicians, team leaders, and engineering support staff.
Shift-based work schedule depending on production demand.
PPE and adherence to safety protocols mandatory always.
