Under the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) transformation agenda, we are looking for a Deputy Team Manager who understands the importance of the Preparing for Adulthood transition from children's services into adults, who has a good understanding of SEND, an in-depth understanding of the Care Act 2014, experience of working within a Multi-Disciplinary setting and most importantly have a passion for working within a team who supports young people and their families from the age of 14 - 25 years with SEND needs.
At the moment, the team you will be joining is currently known as the Specialist Adult Pathway Team (SAPT) but it will be changing it's name to Preparing for Adulthood team once successful recruitment of key posts has been completed. This will then allow us to fully begin to meet one of our aspirations which is the creation of a Preparing for Adulthood Team.
SAPT sits alongside the Community Learning Disability Team as part of the All Age Disability Team. The role of SAPT is to work with young people aged 14-25 years and their families with a focus on preparing them for adulthood. This involves close liaison with the Children with Disabilities service and other Children's Social Care teams. In preparing the young person for adulthood, the team undertakes holistic strength-based assessment and develop personalised support plans to meet the young persons needs and outcomes, in preparation for them turning 18.
This team is based within an All Age Disability Service which comprises of:
Provide line management to team members including qualified Social Workers.
Have a fundamental role in the safeguarding of some of the most vulnerable people in Kirklees and will have a role in safeguarding processes in line with policies and procedures.
Provide support to the Team Manager to ensure smooth and effective management of the team and will be responsible for the team in Team Manager's absence.
You will provide consistent guidance and leadership to the staff team
Make recommendations in relation to support packages and authorise in the Team Manager's absence to an agreed level.
Support the Team Manager with the management of budgets through effective monitoring.
Support the team to adopt enabling approaches and appropriate levels of intervention to facilitate and maximise people's independence and positive risk taking as far as possible.
Required Skills and Experience for the Role:
Change management skills are vital to ensure that changes are embraced positively by everyone in the team, whilst fostering a creative ethos to guarantee vulnerable adults are supported with care that is individual to them.
As part of this role, you will be expected to positively manage team change, growth, support the development of new pathways, support the improvement of current pathways and identify gaps in services with the support of the Team Manager and the All Age Disability Service Manager.
You must have Substantial post qualifying experience in a relevant setting.
A SWE recognised professional Social Work qualification and evidence of SWE registration.
The ability to manage resources within budget.
Experience of providing support / mentoring to less experienced colleagues.
Undertaken some management training or ability to demonstrate equivalent competencies.
An understanding of relevant legislation and government agendas and the implications for practice.
Knowledge of Health and Safety principles.
Awareness of working practices and change agendas affecting partners in particular the NHS.
