Looking for a candidate :



To provide leadership, guidance and support to all nursing staff within the clinical area, and continuous quality care to a specified group of patients.



To take responsibility for the management and co-ordination of the clinical area in conjunction with and in the absence of the Ward Manager.



To provide support and expertise in the assessment, planning and

evaluation of all patient care within the surgical and orthopaedic setting.



To assist in the budgetary management, training and development of staff to provide high quality care which is evidence-based.



The Deputy Ward Manager will undertake the management of the ward on a day-to-day basis in the absence of or in conjunction with the Ward Manager. To provide clinical leadership and support colleagues to plan, monitor and evaluate skilled and appropriate care for surgical inpatient and ensure the provision of evidence based care. The post holder must act as a role model in providing specialist knowledge in various surgical specialities. We are looking for senior nurses to work in our division. Our Surgical division includes General Surgery, Gynaecology, ENT, Orthopedic/Trauma and elective surgery. You will work as part of a team supporting and developing colleagues by mentoring and assessing their skills.



1. Assist the Ward Manager in providing advice, guidance, support and

professional leadership for all nursing staff in the clinical area.

2. Continually assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based

programmes of care in order to ensure the provision of a high standard of

care.

3. Personally deliver a high standard of care to a group of patients, acting as a team leader / named nurse and clinical role model at all times.

4. Assist in developing the ward philosophy and framework of care in line with unit / organisational, beliefs / values and changes in surgical .

5. Ensure the provision of advice, support and health information to patients and their carers in order to promote a health-based service.

6. Ensure workload of nursing staff and colleagues does not jeopardise safe

standards of practice and initiate action if necessary.

To provide leadership, support and guidance to staff in monitoring the planning delivery and evaluation of individualised care.



Responsible for monitoring the workload/patient acuity within the ward/unit on a daily basis to ensure that nursing manpower is adequate to provide a safe standard of nursing care.



Liaise with other wards within the Directorate regarding staffing issues, offering support if necessary.



Support division by covering the surgical bleep as flow lead



Exercise leadership to motivate members of staff, achieve high morale and promote effective communication within the ward.



Investigate all incidents and complaints as delegated by the Ward Manager or Matron.



Act up or deputise for the Ward Manager when required taking charge of the ward as required.



Encourage new ideas and facilitate their implementation following discussion with the clinical leader.



In conjunction with Ward Manager and Matron facilitate the process of change within the ward and undertaking QI projects.



In conjunction with Ward Manager performs appraisals and facilitates in the development of Professional Development Plans for staff within team.



Support the Ward Manager in any disciplinary, performance or sickness issues as appropriate and in accordance with Trust procedures.



Support the Ward Manager with creation and maintenance of Health roster.
