Under the direction of the nurse who has continuing responsibility, the post holder is responsible for providing and maintaining a high standard of care to patients attending Dermatology clinics at all of our sites, preparing rooms and equipment to provide seamless support and deliver our vision for exceptional patient centred experiences.
The post-holder will undertake a range of clinical activities under the indirect supervision of registered nursing colleagues. These include: running Dermatology Minor Surgical Procedure lists, as lone assistant to the operating surgeon; dressing of surgical and non-surgical wounds; weekly forward-planning of operation lists; supporting Dermatology Outpatient clinic lists; monitoring and maintaining general and specialist stock levels.
Your Day to Day ...
Meet and greet patients, providing excellent customer service to create a positive and comfortable experience.
Communicate with individual and groups of outpatients to advise them of matters arising during a clinic session, for example, waiting times.
Assist patients with any inquiries or concerns, ensuring their needs are met with empathy and professionalism.
To carry out general health checks and observation of the patient, including but not limited to height, weight, pregnancy testing, urinalysis and phlebotomy.
Recording collection of blood sample/ specimens in patient record and traceability book and ensuring samples are dispatched to the pathology department by the end of the day
Facilitate a smooth patient flow throughout the clinic, optimising their overall experience.
Assist the dermatologist during minor operations, including set up of minor surgery clinics and assisting procedures, including maintaining aseptic technique and supporting the patient.
Undertake simple dressings, wound care and suture removal
Provide reassurance and support to patients undergoing minor operations, fostering a compassionate and caring atmosphere.
Check pathology and histology results that have been sent by the laboratories are linked with the patient notes and escalate those requiring urgent attention to the clinician.
Maintain high standards of clinical record keeping
Share with registered nurse colleagues responsibility for the security of specialist equipment in the department, such as hyfrecator, cameras, liquid nitrogen dispenser
Share with registered nurse colleagues responsibility for ordering routine and specialist consumable stock to appropriate levels
Ensure the room is left clean and tidy once the clinic has finished.
Follow infection control protocols and maintain high standards of cleanliness to uphold a safe and hygienic environment.
Facilitate the completion of electronic or paper patient surveys after each appointment, ensuring valuable feedback is collected for continuous improvement.
Conduct regular stock checks to ensure an adequate supply of clinic-related materials and equipment.
To work with all members of the Dermatology team and other member of the multi disciplinary team to ensure that best practice is provided and maintained.
Assist the qualified nurses to run clinics smoothly and help with the delivery of holistic patient care.
Qualifications and Experience

HCA care certificate
Phlebotomy trained
Minimum 5 GCSE or equivalent
Relevant NHS or equivalent experience.
Experience of working autonomously as well as part of a team
Ability to work under pressure and be adaptive
