Job Description


Five By Five Global is looking for a full-time Design Director with a creative conceptual mind and technical ability to work alongside our talented team based in Los Angeles. This is a great opportunity to join an independent global digital marketing agency and work on compelling projects for exciting, well-known brands.

The Design Director is responsible for conceptual development and overseeing the execution of creative deliverables for our clients. These responsibilities include developing creative concepts, designing UX/UI-focused solutions, crafting brand identities and managing a team of designers and external partners to create interactive advertising campaigns. The role requires the ability to present and sell ideas as well as work hands-on to deliver work with precision and excellence. Reporting to the General Manager, the Design Director will direct, lead and collaborate with a team of designers, copywriters, UX designers, production specialists, and technologists. Balancing creative thinking with interpersonal skills, this person has a high comfort level with presenting and selling agency work to clients, decision makers and exec-level teams.

Five by Five currently maintains a hybrid in-office and remote work schedule.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • 7+ years of digital design experience.
  • Has an online portfolio with top quality work samples to share.
  • Digital agency experience, with prior leadership/management role preferred.
  • Significant experience with UX/UI driven projects including creating responsive websites.
  • Experience developing concept-driven digital ad campaigns.
  • Experience developing brand identity systems.
  • Must be highly detail-focused and able to design and lead systematic design projects.
  • Flexible and self-motivated; someone who can seamlessly switch between a diversity of projects.
  • Industrious and enthusiastic about producing well-crafted work.
  • Has the ability to think creatively and justify concepts to clients and account team members.
  • Has a proven aptitude for quick creative thinking with acute attention to detail within demanding deadlines.
  • Has excellent design presentation and persuasion skills.
  • Is curious, and unafraid to learn and implement new tools and technologies.
  • Personally maintains a knowledge and understanding of leading creative methodologies and thinking.
  • Has significant experience using Figma and other UI prototyping tools.
Bonus:
  • Bachelor\'s in Graphic Design, Multimedia Design, Fine Arts or a related field.
  • Photo and Video shoot art direction experience.
  • Video/Motion Graphics experience.
  • 3D or CGI experience.
  • Webgl, VR, AR, Unity or Unreal experience.
  • Is positive, authentic, and passionate.
Responsibilities:
  • Direct and manage all creative aspects of owned projects from concept through to completion, ensuring the delivery of successful and quality solutions that achieve client goals.
  • Design systematic design solutions with creativity and precision.
  • Think creatively and confidently present and justify concepts to clients.
  • Balance multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the wider creative team to ensure that the agency recruits, nurtures, retains and develops a talented team of people.
  • Work with the account team to agree to realistic estimates and pricing to clients; managing delivery budgets so that creative output is achieved as profitably as possible.
  • Collaborate and work closely with Business Development, Planning and Account Services teams to create, develop and pitch new business opportunities.
  • Oversee and help to define agency processes and quality standards for creative development and delivery.
